Peeping Moon Exclusive: Tamannaah Bhatia paired opposite John Abraham in Rohit Shetty’s Rakesh Maria Biopic; shooting commences in Mumbai

Tamannaah Bhatia is on a signing spree. Just days after we exclusively revealed that the Bollywood actress, who is currently making waves with her electrifying item number in ‘Raid 2,’ had bagged a leading role in Anees Bazmee’s ‘No Entry 2,’ we’ve now heard that she has added another high-profile project to her rapidly growing film slate for next year.

PeepingMoon.com has exclusively learned that Tamannaah has now been signed on for Rohit Shetty’s upcoming biographical action film, starring John Abraham as the former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Rakesh Maria. The ‘Baahubali’ actress will play Preeti Maria, the wife of the celebrated officer, in what promises to be a gripping action drama.

"Preeti has been a constant pillar of strength for Rakesh, supporting him through some of the most dangerous and testing moments of his career and taking care of their family while he was at the forefront of protecting the city from terrorists. Her role is integral to his narrative, and Tamannaah is thrilled and honored to bring this character to life,” a source close to the development told us. This film will mark John and Tamannaah's second collaboration, following the actress’ cameo as John’s wife in Nikkhil Advani's ‘Vedaa’ last year.

Based on Rakesh's autobiography, ‘Let Me Say It Now,’ the yet-untitled project marks Rohit’s first real-life story after years of telling fictional cop stories through his Cop Universe films. The film chronicles Rakesh's illustrious 36-year career as a dedicated and resolute officer who tackled some of the country’s most high-profile and sensitive criminal cases. These included the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, the 2008 Indian Mujahideen module crackdown, the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, and the Sheena Bora murder case.

Shooting began just yesterday in Mumbai and is scheduled to continue across 40 locations in the city, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dongri, and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The makers are looking at completing production by August, with a theatrical release planned for early next year. An official announcement about the film is expected next week.
