Exclusive: These directors to helm Anushka Sharma's first digital show, Assassins

Anushka Sharma's production house Clean Slate Films which she is running along with her brother Karnesh Sharma has always been a destination for creative talents. After the establishment of the firm in 2014, they have produced a crime-thriller (NH10), a romantic comedy (Phillauri) and a supernatural horror film (Pari)— all completely different from one another. And now when the production banner is venturing into digital space, Anushka and Karnesh have picked an unexplored genre once again.

Anushka has collaborated with streaming giant Amazon Prime Video for her banner's first web-series and we heard it's a gripping cop-drama. The series has tentatively been titled Assassins and will go on floors in January next year. "It's an investigation drama set in Delhi. The makers are planning to make it a multi-seasonal series having 10 episodes in each season. It will be made on the lines of American crime drama Television series True Detective in which one season sees the cops handling one particular case and different cases in further seasons," a source informed Peepingmoon.com.

Hardik Mehta who has worked on Hindi feature films like Lootera, Queen and Trapped has written the series. Although there were rumours that NH10 and Udta Punjab writer Sudip Sharma will be directing this show, we heard he will only be credited as the showrunner. Amazon has given the duties of directors to Prosit Roy and Avinash Arun. While Prosit made his directorial debut with Anushka's Pari, Avinash is a well-known cinematographer and has previously directed a National Award-winning Marathi film, called Killa.

"The script is ready and the casts have also been almost locked. The makers will make the official announcement once the actors sign on the dotted line," the source further said adding that Anushka will not act in this series like her previous production ventures. "Anushka definitely wants to try her hands at web-series at one point of her career but for this particular show she has decided to only back it."
