Ace Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan passed away from cardiac arrest in the wee hours of Friday on July 3, 2020. She was admitted to Guru Nanak hospital on June 17 after complaining of chest pain. The veteran choreographer was 72.
Saroj, who was lovingly called 'Masterji' in Bollywood worked in over 200 films and was loved by many including dancer and choreographer Shakti Mohan. Shakti spoke to PeepingMoon exclusively and told, "She is an icon for all the dancers and choreographers. She started the trend of female choreographers and many women were inspired by her. She had the ability to be a dance director. I was very lucky to be able to work with her. My sister Mukti has also worked with her. She is extremely talented. Talent is an understatement. In so many years, no choreographer was able to touch her. She is a beautiful dancer and it's such a tragic day."
When asked about Saroj ji's process, Shakti told us, "Today's dancers, especially me, I dance with a lot of technicalities but Saroj ji used to dance from her soul. Saroj Khan’s adaakari was only seen in Madhuri Dixit because she was trained by her for so many years."
Shakti was a part of Saroj Khan's Nachle Ve with Saroj Khan in 2010.
