The happy hurrah was on as Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone walked the ramp and walked their way into your heart. They were the starry showstoppers as famed fashion designer Manish Malhotra and Mijwan Welfare Society celebrated seven glorious years of their association at a show titled ‘The Walk of Mijwan’ at JW Marriott.
Named after a local village in Uttar Pradesh, the Mijwan Welfare Society is an NGO founded by the late Kaifi Azmi and headed by Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal. It operates with the dual objective of reviving the timeless craft of Chikan embroidery as well as empowering local women.
The show relived the vintage charm of a bygone era with sheer lightweight fabrics in pastel hues. It was a pretty play of muted shades of white, beige, lilac, aqua and baby pink along with darker shades of red and blue. Along with lehengas, the collection also included opulent, T-length skirts, sheer long and short capes, dresses and elaborately embroidered shoes and fringe clutches.
For the modern man, showcased was an enchanting fusion of the urban and the traditional. Handcrafted in a vibrant, modern colour palette, the line comprised well-tailored and embroidered bandhgalas, jackets, sherwanis and kurtas paired with slim pants.
And spotted in the front row were Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, Dimple Kapadia, Neetu Singh, Nandita Das, Sonakshi Sinha, Divya Khosla Kumar, Nushrat Bharucha, Yami Gautam, Sonali Bendre and Huma Qureshi to name a few.
