20 Years of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai! Throwback to the most iconic looks that the film paved way for 2 decades ago

It's been 20 years to one of the most iconic films that Bollywood has experienced. Ace director Karan Johar is proudly celebrating two decades of his debut directorial, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. While we're utterly nostalgic reminiscing all the dialogues from the 1998 blockbuster including, 'I don't like jokes', 'Rahul is a cheater' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Anjali, tum nai samjhogi', we're also hit by a massive wave of all the evergreen sartorial trends this film has given us. Two decades and we're still screaming#WardrobeGoals while we look for printed shirts, oversized hoodies and choker necklaces.

Here's a classic throwback to all the fashion aesthetics and the evergreen #Ootd's that Rahul, Anjali, and Tina bestowed on us. Special thanks to the visionaries behind the scene, Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra!

In the film, Shah Rukh is playing the role of the college playboy named Rahul Khanna who plays basketball, is popular (obviously!) and is probably every girl's crush.
This film brought about the revolution of comfort clothing being fashion's equivalent.

Printed shirts, oversized sweatshirts, uber-cool jerseys, and dark-hued jackets, Rahul wore it all. How can we forget the James Dean vibe with the pulled back hair, sharp, clean-shaven jawline, badass lockets and retro sunglasses that had every girl swooning!

While the care-free, college Rahul was his comfortable self in these tracksuits and jerseys, the single-dad Rahul got a wardrobe makeover with the hot-dad clothes. Sharp cut suit-n-tie sets, stylish trench coats, V-neck pullovers...Oof!

O-M-G, are we drooling?

While Shah Rukh was busy playing the college-stud, Kajol was prepping to play his best friend, Anjali Sharma. Anjali, being the college tom-boy, an athletic soul and the know-it-all, chirpy friend that everyone knows and likes, was given outfits which were sartorially sound yet comfortable.

Oversized dungarees, tracksuits, gym-sets, and denim jackets were her forte. Kajol's character brought about the actual 'No-Makeup-look' which is so popular today. The broad hairband will be seen through generations to come as a memento given by the fun-loving, college Anjali.

While the sweatshirts and tracksuits were cool, there's something about a girl in a saree that screams understated elegance and Kajol was seen as that and much more! For the mature grown-up and almost married Anjali, Kajol was seen wearing plain sarees with self-embroidered blouses. Her luscious mane, minimal accessories and the confidence made the look an iconic one.

The audience related to the carefree Anjali as much as they did to the mature Anjali. While her best friend, basketball and having fun was all she cared about in college, Kajol's character grew up to be a very elegant and composed lady from the tom-boy she was. While she was loud and rough-n-tough in college, she became a delicate, shy girl who loved kids, her work and was engaged-to-be-married. While the makeover left us stunned, we've also looked up to it at some point in our lives.

Needless to say, the film was not only a cinematic masterpiece, but also a sartorial one.

Rani Mukherji played the role of Tina Malhotra, the college eye-candy who is the Dean's daughter and has finished her school in London. Bringing the western culture in, Tina was seen sporting tight dresses, short skirts and sleeveless tops with chokers or scarves.

Jackets, cute sling bags, and heeled shoes were her thing. Rani's character was so fashionably sound that her college boys and girls, both did a do-over every time she stepped down the halls.

The cute-girl-next-door ponytail was one of the most effortlessly yet efficient styles that is still very much in vogue.

While Tina stayed abroad for the most part of her childhood, her roots and culture weren't lost on her. Are you replaying the 'Om Jai Jagdish' scene in your head too?

The actress was seen wearing self-embroidered suits in the song, 'Tum paas aaye' apart from a couple of other scenes in the film. Fresh hues and fresh styling, Rani's wardrobe went from Pooh to Parvati in 0.003 seconds.

While the shirt-skirt Tina was every boy's fantasy, the patiala suit Tina was the kind of girl you'd take home to your mother. Such character build-up, much-much wow!

If the protagonists weren't enough, the ace director gave proper detailed wardrobes for the supporting characters as well. Like Moss Braganza, played by Archana Puran Singh, who's the hot-teacher everyone is crushing on. Skirt-suit sets, pearl necklaces and the flirtatious vibe, Miss Braganza touched all our hearts in the minimum screentime itself.

The role of Almeida, played by Johnny Lever, who is an Englishman and the camp supervisor at the Shimla Camp. Camp shirts, oversized, sporty t-shirts, snapbacks, and the funny accent when speaking in Hindi, Almeida will forever be in our hearts as the fun camp guide.

With so much nostalgia running up our system, we are absolutely sure about one thing. A fiery-hot blockbuster like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a treasure, a gift and a legacy for the generations, millenniums and centuries to come.
