Today, August 7, 2020 marks as 6th National Handloom Day which is celebrated to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement launched in 1905. It also honors the efforts of Indian weavers and artisans and put the nation’s handloom sector in the spotlight.
To support the nation’s textile legacy and acknowledge artisan’s labour of love, film and fashion fraternity came together to pay an ode to this day by being ‘Vocal 4 Handloom’
Textile Minister Smriti Irani shared a heartfelt note describing the importance of handloom articles in our day to day lives.
The Fashion Design Council of India highlighted the importance of this day.
Whereas, Lakme Fashion Week asked people to pledge their contributions that can support the Indian artisans that craft stories on the loom.
Designers Manish Malhotra and Sabyasachi Mukherjee shared their respective handloom work to celebrate the day dedicated to the traditional weaves.
Sustainable brand Raw Mango by designer Sanjay Garg shared a small film highlighting their contributions towards the weavers and nation’s textile heritage.
Designers Abraham and Thakore also shared a post to honour this day.
Stylist Ami Patel shared a throwback shoot look featuring the textile handloom work.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Janhvi Kapoor shared their love for handloom creations.
Vidya Balan asked her fans to support the weavers across the country and help to keep up the handloom legacy.
Kangana Ranaut took it to her social media space and asked the masses to promote and support the handloom and handmade articles.
