Bollywood’s most sought out designer Manish Malhotra turns 54 today and continues to defy age. Contributing his 30 glorious years in the showbiz, Manish surely carved a niche for himself in the film and the fashion fraternity. Starting off as an aspiring model, Manish later turned towards costume designing and as they say, the rest is history.
Speaking of his work and design aesthetics, Manish has mastered the art of presenting old school glamour with a modern touch and the results have always been stunning. His signature work includes making glorious ensembles using traditional colours, craftsmanship, textures, and embroideries. Magic weaver, really! Dominating the fashion fraternity, one outfit at a time, this ace designer has proved to us that he is in for a long haul. COSTUME DESIGNER
Although weaving magic with clothes is just one of the feathers in his multitalented hat. Malhotra has been a class apart costume designer for three decades now and his creation is atreat to the sore eyes to date. In 1990, Manish, then 25, designed Juhi Chawla’s costumes for her film Swarg but his big break arrived in the form of Rangeela as he styled Urmila Matondkar in the 1995 film and also won the Filmfare Costume Award for his work. Being honoured with the Filmfare Award was a turning point in his career as Manish, soon after, worked with A-list stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Sushmita Sen, Kareena Kapoor Khan and gen-next stars Janhvi Kapoor, Alia Bhatt on blockbusters such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Main Hoon Na, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Dhadak.
SOUGHT-OUT COUTIERER
Manish started his namesake designer label 15 years ago and continues to dress the tinsel town to date. His star-studded clientele includes a long list of B-town’s leading ladies namely Kapoor siblings Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor, muse late Sri Devi and her daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Kiara Advani, Bhumi Pednekar, Kriti Sanon, Sara Ali Khan, Pooja Hedge, amongst many others.
Dapper men like Karan Johar, Kartik Aaryan, Siddharth Malhotra, Sidharth Shukla, are also a part of his star-studded list.
MAKEUP MAVEN
In 2019, Manish launched his own makeup line-' Manish Malhotra by My Glamm' and introduced a new world of beauty to the tinsel town. Luminating body highlighters, uber-luxe eye palettes, lip glosses, lipsticks, nail lacquers, blushes, and highlighters... he offered us all of this and so much more with his exclusive collaboration.
Not just this, the fashion-cum-beauty wizard is soon going to launch makeup for men and we cannot wait!
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Apart from this, Manish is also actively involved in several social events. He promotes regional handicrafts and workmanship from rural India through his collaboration with the Mijwan Welfare Society - a non-governmental organisation founded by Late Kaifi Azmi and headed by Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal. He has also paid tribute to Kashmiri karigars by working in close association with the craftsmen in the state and displaying work from his Kashmiri Heritage Collection at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.
