Many extraordinary and path-breaking shows have taken place in fashion history, but this one is indeed one of a kind. In the times where fashion houses compete to thrive their place in the biz, two heritage Italian brands- Fendi and Versace came together to create a historic catwalk even for the finale of Milan Fashion Week.
The world and the fashionistas will remember the night of September 26, 2020, when Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi of Fendi and Donatella Versace of Versace swapped houses to design and innovate 25 looks on behalf of the others' brand and the results were downright FABULOUS! IT was indeed a glorious event to witness at it exhibited the power of collaboration bringing the two forces of fashion together on the runway. “It’s a first in the history of fashion: two designers having a true creative dialogue that stems from respect and friendship. It led to us swapping roles to create these two collections,” Donatella spoke of the partnership, while Kim added, “Friends, idols, mentors… It’s the beauty of togetherness.”
Split into segments called ‘Fendi by Versace’ and ‘Versace by Fendi’ this collection was described as a ‘swap’ and not a ‘collaboration.’ The ‘Versace by Fendi’ took inspiration from the late ‘90s that dwelled deeper into the concept of duality fusing Fendi’s monogram with Versace’s Greek key motif. As opposite to Fendi’s design aesthetics, ‘Fendi by Versace’ reimagined the punk-rock era with chainmail besides lace and chunky safety pins featuring Fendi’s ‘F’ logo.
Celebrating this one-of-a-kind night, the show saw a star-studded cast of Gigi Hadid, Naomi Campbell, Emily Ratajkowski, Iriyana Shayak, Kate Moss, amongst others.
Forces of fashion in the truest sense. What are your thoughts on this ‘Fendace’ collection?
