Objects in the mirror might be closer than they appear but they won’t be as closer as the #RanLia wedding date! Yes, tinsel town’s one of the most favourite couples Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are all set to be the man and wife. The duo is all set to take the plunge on reported dates falling between April 13 to 17 in town in the presence of family and friends.
With so little time in hand, one can really say that the wedding preps are in full swing. If the reports are to be believed, Alia will transform into a surreal Sabyasachi bride for the man of her dreams. Given her sound sartorial sensibilities and love for all things classic ethnics, it seems we are definitely in for a magical surprise. Being a fashionista herself, the actress will soon join the Kapoor clan officially which is known for all things royal and high-on-fashion.
While we can’t wait to see Alia turning into ‘Ranbir ki Dulhaniya’ here’s looking back at some notable Kapoor clan brides who have shelled out major D-day goals with their wedding looks back then.
NEETU KAPOOR
Married to Ranbir’s father, late Rishi Kapoor in the late ‘1980s, Neetu made for a gorgeous Kapoor bride with her ravishing red lehenga adorned with golden zarodsi details. The maang tikka and a minimalistic nath completed her wedding look.
For the reception, the actress ditched the red for a vibrant pink saree elevated with silver embellishments. Her look was completed with elegant diamond jewels.
SHWETA BACHCHAN NANDA
Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s daughter Shweta got married to Nikhil Nanda, son of Ranbir's paternal aunt Ritu Nanda (Rishi Kapoor's sister) in 1997. An Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla bride, Shweta oozed regalia dressed in her velvet maroon handcrafted lehenga that was adorned with tiny booties embroidered in resham, badla and crystals.
Elegant jewels completed her royal bridal attire.
KARISMA KAPOOR
Ranbir’s cousin Karisma got hitched to businessman Sunjay Kapoor in 2003 in a Sikh wedding ceremony at her ancestral home, Krishna Raj Bungalow, in Mumbai. Being an OG Kapoor fashionista, Karisma ditched a quintessential red lehenga for a vibrant pink one elevated with pearl motifs, crystal embellishments and tassels.
A statement neckpiece along with an OTT nath added to the bling affair of her trousseau. The red chooda along with golden kaleeras added to the essence of her Punjabi bridal look.
RIDDHIMA KAPOOR SAHNI
Ranbir’s sister and jewellery designer Riddhima tied the knot with industrialist Bharat Sahni in 2006. She looked every bit beautiful in a red bridal joda elevated with delicate golden zardosi work.
Riddhima completed her bridal look with minimalistic yet elegant jewels and signature Punjabi kaleeras.
KAREENA KAPOOR KHAN
Kareena tied the knot with the Nawab of Pataudi Saif Ali Khan in 2012 with a select few in attendance. Instead of opting for big designer labels, Kareena got married in an heirloom sharara, donned by her mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore for her nikah in 1962. Her bridal sharara set comprised of tissue rust-orange kurta, teamed with sharara pants with a contrasting mint green border and a matching dupatta embroidered heavily in gold. Her bridal piece was restored and reworked by designer Ritu Kumar.
For the jewels, Bebo opted for a statement choker set and a maang-tikka to complete her regal look.
ANISSA JAIN
The latest to enter the Kapoor bridal clan was designer Anissa Jain who got married to Armaan Jain, son of Ranbir's paternal aunt Rima Jain (Rishi Kapoor's sister) in 2020. The diva opted for a ravishing red Sabyasachi lehenga that featured intricate golden zari work all over. Uncut emerald jewels added a dash of contrast to her red and golden joda while adding regalia to her look.
For the sangeet-cum-reception, Anissa opted for a crystal-embellished Manish Malhotra lehenga.
With just a few days to go, we cannot wait to see what Alia has in store for us. Any guesses?
