Poorna Jagannathan is having her moment to shine and in my opinion, it’s about the damn time. There was a debate started on Instagram by an account that is anonymously run, Diet Sabya where he talked about ‘Tacky NRI Fashion’ and we went ahead to call them absolutely terrible. However, this isn’t the first time when Indians have been represented by the tacky NRI fashion.
Poorna, with the co-producer and creator of the show Mindy Kaling, which is also Indian based personality who settled abroad, maintained the South Asian culture and introduced the homegrown label in the Hollywood comedy-drama series Never Have I Ever season 3 and portrayed Nalini (Poorna Jagannathan) as a young powerful woman who dresses so chic.
There was a style evolution in her character and a mission to showcase both her heritage and a fashion-forwardness in every outfit. From wearing beautiful prints to desi ikats and hand-woven artistic styles, Poorna looked so fabulous in the entire season of the show. Let’s have a look.
Cleopatra Reincarnated
ROYALTY! This custom-made fit by Rahul Mishra reeked of the purest form of Indian craftsmanship and honour. The piece is named by Rahul himself and is called 'Cumulus'. Poorna resembled Cleopatra in this fully-hand embroidered gold and silver metallic sequins made out of Resham, Zari, and Japanese glass beads which she wore to the premiere.
Poorna In Her Purest
This raw mango dress was a great example of the traditional weaving for saris used for modern silhouettes and omg it’s stunning. Poorna was looking so gorgeous in this royal blue kurta and pants set with golden embroidered work on it. Her elegance was unmatched especially with her neckpiece and earrings to finish off her look.
The Italian Stallion
Queen ‘Nalini’ rocked the Italian look in this one and in what style! She looked stunning in this golden-yellow cut-sleeve kurta with a palazzo by Payal Khandwala. What amplified this look, even more, was her posing techniques.
Sizzlin'
Poorna looked absolutely mind-blowing in this Tibetan Mask Jacket and Pant set designed by IKAI. The right amount of makeup and accessories did some justice to the look. Not many would be able to pull off this fit in such exquisite fashion.
Powerhouse
Can’t gush enough about this look! So simple yet elegant. This two-piece set by IKAI which incorporated a flowy full-sleeve red kurta with white prints on it fitted so well on her. She didn't opt for anything much to accessorize this look and let the outfit do the talking.
‘Never have I Ever’ got bored of seeing Poorna on-screen. I did not. What about you?
