Excerpts from the interview:

How does it feel to showcase your new collection on such a big platform like LFW?

FDCI x LFW event always has been a favourite amongst fashion designers so there is no denying fact that I am including my entire team was excited to be part of such a prestigious event and we did put our heart & soul into making 7 different collections.

The collection name is ‘Badlaav’. What is the inspiration behind this name?

The collection is a journey from past to present. My main inspiration is block print texturing & with that earlier I used to create the whole collection with the touch of embroidery, but for this collection, my inspiration was change & growth from the past collection and moving towards the Couture Collection.

Why is this collection targeted towards destination weddings?

We have tried to attain resort SS 23 look into bridals keeping in mind post covid weddings, where people started moving towards destination weddings. We have tried to use floral embroidery along with kept colours which we obtained through tie & die and are suitable for summers.

What new and refreshing changes can one see with your bridesmaid collection on the runway?

Its light embroidered outfits with fluid silhouettes, keeping in mind the contemporary look very much requested by today’s buyers. With our exclusive line curated specifically for bridesmaids, we tried to help the audience to make their selection easy and simplified.

Do you have a showstopper?

No, this time we are just showcasing our collections at the LFW showroom but in March 2023 we are planning for a show.

Can you speak more about this collection? What was the mood board behind this curation?

I have tried to showcase the dynamicity of the world & chose growth as an inspiration.

Will we see another collection catering the intimate affairs?

The collection is aimed at intimacy amalgamated with intricate elegance and looking at the lovely response, my team and I would certainly be aiming to come with more such amazing creations.

Do you plan on sticking to the niche or expanding your label ‘Ek Dhaaga’? P

Poonam Dubey Designs is already catering to the specific occasions meant for the Niche segment and with Ek Dhaaga, our new label has been created with lots of thought processes to cater to both niche segments along with other audiences who have a flair towards fashion for secondary occasions.

Which Bollywood celebrity style do you like the most?

Bollywood is certainly filled with multiple talented people, and it is tough to choose one, but if you want me to be specific then I would say, I adore Rekha as my personal favourite for reaching this far and still looking like early days due to her specific style quotient.

Which Bollywood actress would you love to dress up as a bride?

This seems a little tricky question to me as I would like to dress up everyone to showcase my versatile looks.

Who is your fashion inspiration?

Karl Lagerfeld

How would you describe your brother Manoj Bajpayee's fashion sense? Have you designed outfits for him?

His fashion sense is very simple and subtle, he loves to wear the things he is comfortable with. Yes, I have designed for a few casual family events.

What ‘Badlaav’ do you want to inflict on the fashion industry as a whole? Any word of advice for aspiring designers?

You may already see the ‘Badlaav’ happening in the industry when two big giants FDCI & LFW join hands to put up a great show thereby competing with international events. Keep trust in yourself and your creations and success will surely come your way.

So far, which designer’s LFW presentation have you liked the most?

My answer would seem repetitive, but I would like to say that every designer is special in their own way with their creation and I personally, being an artist, love everyone's work. I really have the utmost respect towards the designer’s fraternity working day in and out to make this big event LFW a grand success.
