Pongal is the first Hindu festival celebrated annually. It marks the harvest season across the country and is known by different names in various states. While Tamil Nadu celebrates it as Pongal, the North of India refers to it as Lohri. In Western India, including states like Maharashtra and Gujarat, people call it Makar Sankranti.
