Kapil Sharma, who rules over the telly industry with his perfect comedy, celebrates his birthday today. A huge star now, Kapil rose to fame by winning The Great Indian Laughter Challenge back in 2007 and from there on it was no turning back for him. His popularity over the years has doubled up not just in India but all over the globe. From being a struggling singer to becoming India's comedy king, Kapil's journey was nothing different from a roller coaster ride.
On his 39th birthday, here's how Kapil's fame made him fall flat and how he rose stronger later!
INITIAL SUCCESS
Starting from his stint in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007, and his six-time win in Comedy Circus, where he found friends in many of his colleagues who went on to form his core team in two of the most successful comedy shows in the history of Indian TV - Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show, Kapil did not get an opportunity to look back as success continued to be at his feet. The comedian's success touched an all-time high when he launched Comedy Nights With Kapil on Colors TV in 2013 under his banner and collaborated with his Comedy Circus colleagues Sunil Grover, Ali Asgar and Sumona Chakravarti. The show became a huge success taking him to stardom.
BEGINNING OF AN END
All was going well until one fine day Kapil decided to tweet about BMC back in 2016 about taking bribe from him, and tagged PM Narendra Modi in the tweet. A huge controversy followed and Kapil could not escape from it unscathed with BMC retorting with the accusation of illegal construction in Kapil's Mumbai office. Soon Kapil was the center of several professional problems and later confessed he was dealing with depression during that time.
DOWNFALL
The situation got worse when his successful show, that entertained the Indian audience every weekend, was taken off air all of a sudden in January 2016. Kapil said it was because the channel copied his show's format and started a similar show titled Comedy Nights Bachao, which affected his show's business and TRP. But Raj Nayak, the head of Colors TV, had a different story. He was finding it difficult to handle Kapil's tantrums who started asking for more money and violated his contract by hosting shows on competitive channels. All this created a rift between the two, and the show was taken off air, breaking the hearts of many fans.
DEPRESSION
Kapil was quick enough to form another show titled The Kapil Sharma Show with his old CNWK team in April 2016 but things did not go as planned. It was the most defining low point in Kapil's career that left a dent so deep that the comedian is still trying to recover from it. It was his 'mid-air fight' with the colleagues of his blockbuster show The Kapil Sharma Show Sunil Grover, Ali Asgar, Chandan Prabhakar and Sugandha Mishra. The exaggerated coverage of the entire episode not only resulted in a lot of negative publicity for the comedian. but also the subsequent walking out of his colleagues and creative head Preeti Simoes that made the show crumble in no time. Kapil dealt with major depression after this downfall and was said to take a break in order to become stable again.
RISING BACK, STRONGER THAN EVER
Kapil returned to the small screen with the second season of The Kapil Sharma Show in 2018 which not only earned maximum success and TRP but also made his place back again in the Comedy industry. The show is currently airing on Sony TV and manages to grab the first position in almost every weekly TRP list. The comedian is now everywhere. From being an actor, comedian, producer, singer, and host, Kapil has won the hearts of many. And that's how he came back with a bang!
We wish the Comedy King a very happy birthday!
