Farewell, Irrfan! Battling neuroendocrine tumour with a smile, a lookback at the actor's journey against the illness

Bollywood, today is experiencing the blackest day as one of the rare gems, Irrfan breathed his last at the age of 54. The actor who put forth a strong battle against neuroendocrine tumour for nearly two years now, was admitted to the Kokilaben Ambani hospital in Mumbai yesterday for colon infection. Irrfan's health had been deteriorating at an alarming speed in the last few days and the unfortunate news came as a major shock to the entire cine fraternity.

The actor who was recently seen in Homi Adajania's Angrezi Medium was taking treatment in the United Kingdom since 2018 when he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour. Due to this, he took a sabbatical from work and returned to shoot with necessary precautions. Irrfan, because of his poor health, refrained from joining the promotional activities of Angrezi Medium and interacted with media and his fans through a pre-recorded video message. Informing everyone that 'unwanted guests' are sitting inside his body and he is in conversation with them, Irrfan dealt with the sudden twist in his life bravely. Today, as we fondly remember the acting marvel, here's a look back at how he held the shield against his illness bravely and put forth a strong battle against it.

Till then, he had completed four out of six cycles of chemotherapy. “I have had the fourth cycle of chemotherapy. And I have to have six cycles and then we need to have a scan. After the third cycle, the scan was positive. But we need to see after the sixth scan. And then we’ll see where it takes me. There’s no guarantee of life with anybody," Irrfan told in this statement to a leading daily.

But there are some unwanted guests sitting inside my body and I am having a conversation with them. Whatever their status is, I will keep you posted. There is a saying, when life gives you lemons, you make a lemonade," Irrfan said in the video message.
