A story about a kid and a tiger, Life of Pi had Irrfan Khan in a very good role. Despite being an offbeat film, Life of Pi did quite well in India too as it continued to do quite well on the basis of word of mouth and had a long shelf life. This one went past the 50 crores mark in India and brought Irrfan closer to the global audience.
The Amazing Spider-Man - 57.75 crores
As a franchise, Spider-Man has been quite popular in India over the years. Hence, for youngsters as well as adults alike, it was quite exciting to see Irrfan Khan boast of a good role in The Amazing Spider-Man. Yet again, this was a good success in India as it went past the 50 crores mark domestically.
The Lunchbox - 20 crores
One of the most acclaimed films of Irrfan Khan which actually did far better business overseas than India, despite its Mumbai setting, The Lunchbox was an international flick that fetched appreciation all over. It worked at premium multiplexes in India, though box office returns were restricted to the 20 crores mark.
Slumdog Millionaire - 20 crores
An ensemble affair, Slumdog Millionaire is another Oscar winner featuring Irrfan Khan. As a cop, Irrfan did make an impression in this 2008 release, despite Dev Patel, Freida Pinto and Anil Kapoor being the pivotal characters. The film did well in India, both in the English as well as the Hindi versions, and in today's box office this value of 20 crores would have been more.
