Energetic, vibrant, charmer, great actor and an all-time entertainer, that’s what can sum up a force to reckon with called Ranveer Singh. Born into a Sindhi family as Ranveer Singh Bhavnani, the actor was indeed made for the cameras. Maternal cousin of actress Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Ranveer completed his bachelor's degree from Indiana University Bloomington before starting off his brief career in advertising. The powerhouse of talent and energy made his debut in Band Baaja Baaraat in 2010. Since then, there was no stopping. 10 years later, it will be true to classify him as one of the finest performers who have an eye for details and hard-work. As Ranveer continues to garner attention for his films, his off-screen persona is no less attention-worthy. Be it his quirky looks, unusual fashion sense, or PDA with wife Deepika Padukone, he is an omnipresent entertainer who can fill up for his absence on screen.
Today, as we celebrate the 35th birthday of his master of acting, let’s take a look at how Ranveer has been grabbing eyeballs, even when he isn't promoting a film!
In 2010-2011, Ranveer scored back to back releases with Band Baaja Baaraat and Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. The year followed by, 2012, despite having no release, he stayed in the news, thanks to his relationship, followed by an amicable breakup with the co-star of his first two films, Anushka Sharma.
Breezed in 2013, and Ranveer made everyone sit back and take notice of his quaint, melancholy-filled performance in Lootera. The Vikramaditya Motwane directorial saw Ranveer going to extremes, even stapling his stomach to feel the pain of a bullet! Link up rumours of Ranveer and his film co-star Sonakshi Sinha did do the rounds but the former denied by saying, “She is a warm and friendly person. I am not dating anybody at the moment.”
The same year, on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela sets, he met his ladylove Deepika. The film established Ranveer as an energetic force onscreen and a firebrand performer. Much after its release, his signature step from the song Tattad Tattad remained to be an all-time favourite at weddings, parties, and reunions. This side of his opened multiple opportunities.
In 2014, when Gunday released, his bromance with Arjun Kapoor was more highlighted than the film and their pairing was enjoyed by fans more than the storyline. Despite a low phase at the box-office, Ranveer managed to remain in news with his quirky antiques.
Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do in 2015 gave his career a boost. The same year Bajirao Mastani opened in theatres in a while later, gossips of him dating Deepika were stronger than ever. After its release, they made headlines after Deepika chopped off his famous twirl mustache in a hilarious video.
Not to forget the ‘skirts’ he wore for the film’s promotional activities and him going down on his knees for Deepika.
But the very same year also saw Deepika's big-ticket release Tamasha with her ex, Ranbir Kapoor. Ranveer, being the biggest cheerleader of Deepika, surprised the media when he stepped out to promote her film! The Ranbir-Deepika-Ranveer trio infamous photo was one of the most talked-about events of the year!
And not to forget, the deadly AIB Knockout - The Roast of Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, which draw ire from many sections, but nonetheless, had the nation in splits!
Befikre in 2016 with Vaani Kapoor failed to strike the right chord with the audience. Not to be put down with any failure, a casting coup of sorts was pulled when Ranveer appeared on the Koffee With Karan with Ranbir Kapoor and rest is history!
Meanwhile, Ranveer took the challenge of a big-ticket failure heads on. He locked himself up for the preparation of his career's biggest role to date, and when he stepped out in 2017 for the annual Umang show in January in his dreadful Khilji look, the bucks stopped and how!
Padmaavat in 2018 with Deepika and Shahid Kapoor was Ranveer's turup ka ikka. Entering into a dark hole, the actor brought Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vision of a pure black character of Alauddin Khilji to life. As the sociopathic tyrant, he set the benchmark high for others.
That year belonged to Ranveer. Soon after the film's success, there was no lying down. With initial secrecy of sorts, the new age superstar married the love of his life Deepika in a ceremony spanning over 15 odd days and dozens of celebrations. From Lake Como to Mumbai, #DeepVeer was the toast of every news tabloid.
Ranveer closed the year with Simmba - as the bright, loud, over-the-top and colourful cop, a tailor-made role for the actor in the Rohit Shetty directorial. The film shattered box office records with a golden run.
Boom 2019. Riding high on a fantabulous year, a dream wedding, it was time for 'Ranveer Singh - The actor' to jump into the fire with Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy. The rags to riches rapper story won him every possible accolade in the industry. But hey, it's Ranveer. The film's promotion saw him unleash his brand of gender neutrality in fashion with no restraints. His sartorial choices caught fancy of the fashion police who were left sheerly stunned. This time, x10!
Enter 2020. Before the pandemic hit us, Ranveer did his bit to leave us thoroughly entertained at Rohit Shetty's Sooryavanshi’s trailer launch when he turned up late and apologized to Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn.
Now, as his fans are awaiting the release of Kabir Khan’s sports drama ’83 that reunites him with Deepika after Padmaavat, he is keeping everyone delighted on social media. While we all are locked down at home due to COVID-19, Ranveer's sweet PDA with his wife is like a generous serve of Nutella! Be it lavishing praise on her or showing off his hypersomnia side, DeepVeer is one fun couple!
It will be fair to say, be it onscreen or off-screen, Ranveer has been staying in the limelight for a decade, non-stop, as the classic entertainer of Bollywood, ‘bread pakode ki kasam’!
