Holi 2021: Gujiyas to spending time with family, celebs reveal their plans to celebrate festival of colours amid Covid 2.0

It's the end of March already and the nation is soaking in the colours of Holi. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Holi celebrations are restricted but our Bollywood and television celebrities know how to make the most of the festival of colours. As we are relishing delicious gujiyas, thandai and splashing water on each other, let's take a look at how celebrities are celebrating Holi but with precautions.

Sharad Malhotra

Sharad Malhotra, who was last seen in Naagin 5, spoke about his Holi plans and said, "I’ll probably wish my parents, extended family and friends virtually. This year it’s a big no to any kind of celebration in the middle of the pandemic. We cannot afford to touch anybody and must maintain physical distance. So stay at home and celebrate a safe Holi. Just try and bring a lot of colours to people’s lives through your words and actions. A couple of years back when I used to play with colours a lot more, attend those wild parties with family, friends and co-actors. Even shooting a Holi sequence on the sets was fun, because at the end of it the entire unit starts playing with colours and get dirty. And we would make sure no one goes home looking different and smeared with colours, top to bottom."

Rakhi Sawant

Bigg Boss 14 finalist Rakhi Sawant revealed her Holi schedule. She said, "Mere wishes to yahi hai ki sab acche se raho doston. Jaan hai toh jahan hai. Holi toh agle saal bhi aayegi agar jaan bachegi toh. Main to stage pe jaungi, perform karungi. Zyada kisiko colours lagane wali nahi hu. Main Sidhu Moose Wala ji ke saath perform karne wali hu lekin kisiko colour nahi lagaungi. Ghadi ghadi sanitiser se haath saaf karungi. Agar zyada holi khelna ka mann hua toh balloons mein sanitiser pani mein mix karke bhar dungi."

Vardhan Puri

Vardhan Puri spoke about his plan to celebrate Holi. He said, "I usually don’t play Holi as I don’t like wasting water. The whole family gets together on this special day, applies gulal on eachothers’ faces. We then have a scrumptious meal followed by jalebis and Rabdi."

He recalled celebrating the festival of colours in his childhood and shared, "When I was little, I used to play Holi with family and friends and have a gala time which lasted 10-12 hours. I used to excitedly wake up at 6 am to fill water in balloons and then engage in gang wars with other groups. It was always my favourite day of the year. I feel guilty now when I think about how much water we wasted. But however, we had great fun and I miss those times."

"Covid has played spoilsport for sure. But I guess it’s health over everything else and we got to do what we got to do. I’m hoping that next year on this day things will be back to normal and for that, it’s imperative that Holi is kept low key this year," Vardhan stated.

Akanksha Puri

Akanksha Puri, who was seen in Vighnaharta Ganesha, shared her Holi plans. The actress revealed, "I guess all plans have gone down the drains with the new Holi guidelines. So guess it will be more virtual this time. I will be home. I have so much work lined up back to back so I don’t want to take any risk."

Sharing her childhood memories from Holi celebrations, Akanksha said, "Holi was so much fun. I use to love troubling everyone around me on Holi. I remember throwing eggs on everyone and then coming back home with stains and the smell of eggs. As I come from a religious family where non-veg and eggs are not allowed inside my house, mom would make me stand out of the house and spray water on me. I would dance while getting wet and mom continued shouting and scolding me. It was so much fun. I so wish we can relive those days."

Talking about how COVID-19 played a spoilsport, Akanksha told, "Holi use to be my favourite festival, I can’t believe I am not playing Holi but it’s ok, safety should be our first priority this year !! Let’s stay healthy and have a double celebration next time."

Shireen Mirza

Shireen Mirza aka Yeh Hai Mohabbatein's Simmi told, "Holi is a fun festival. I remember every year enjoying the Holi party in our housing society over loud music, food, drinks and dance. I miss celebrations in Jaipur. But like last year, this year too we won’t be able to do that. But the best part of spending Holi with family is that after a long time. I might also be meeting friends and eat a lot of gujiya and thandai. In fact, my favourite Holi celebrations are the ones on the sets of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. While we would film a special episode on the occasion, we used to enjoy doing it and would have fun after shooting would get over. My craziest memory would be on the set with Karan (Patel), Aly (Goni), Pankaj (Bhatia) etc. They would pick me up and throw me in a tub full of colours."

Zaan Khan

Zaan Khan, who is currently seen in Kyun Utthe Dil Chhod Aaye, told, "I am allergic to colours so I don’t play Holi. Also, COVID-19 is still there so I feel we should be very careful. I would suggest everyone to be with your family, put some Gulal, avoid meeting a lot of people and gatherings."

Aishwarya Sakhuja

Aishwarya Sakhuja aka Yeh Hai Chahatein's Aahana shared, "I'll be celebrating Holi by either shooting or being home safe and sound with my family. No celebration per se in terms of socialising. It is going to be stupid if I do that. I'll be with my family and maybe cheating with some pizzas."

Priya Banerjee

Priya Banerjee shared, "Looking at the current covid situation I have absolutely no plans for Holi. And I would ask everyone else in the city as well to stay home and celebrate it with only close family and friends."

Sharing her childhood memories of the festival, the actress said, "I think I visited India only a couple of times during Holi as a kid, and that’s when I had the most fun planting it with my cousins and close family, unfortunately, I’ve always been a little scared of colours haha so I never played it too much but I use to love watching people play it."

She further advised people to "should just stay home and not risk going out at all as the COVID-19 numbers have gone out of control."

Sanjay Gagnani

Kundali Bhagya's Sanjay Gagnani said, "This year, I will be working on Holi, shooting for my show where we have already have shot segments celebrating Holi adhering to all the covid norms. In any case, I don't play Holi as I don't like it much as it leads to wastage of water."

Sharing childhood memories, he told, "My favourite Holi memory would be when I would make water balloons with my friends and burst them on each other. There would be a riot of colours, splashing it on each other. Not just the friends, everyone in the vicinity would gather and enjoy the festival. Looking at how people play Holi now, I avoid celebrations, which is a part of being eco-friendly too."

Talking about how COVID-19 played a spoilsport, Sanjay added, "Gatherings, congregations and public celebrations during Holi may pose a considerable threat of the spread of the virus and may cause a setback to the appreciable gains made in the suppression of the chain of transmission of Covid cases. Though at a slower pace We all are getting back to normalcy so in my opinion, it’s alright to skip the celebrations for a year or two for the health and safety of our own selves and for the people around us."

Ankit Siwach

Ankit Siwach, who is seen in Ishq Mein Marjawan 2: Naya Safar, shared, "This Holi is going to be very different for all of us. We all would be celebrating sitting in our home with our families. Of course with colors and lots of food but definitely, it's different because we have to follow covid restrictions. The second huge wave is here. We all have to be very careful."

Recalling childhood memories, he said, "Every Holi celebration in Meerut with friends and family has been special from having bhang for the first time to playing with colours and playing the dirtiest Holi ever."

Ankit felt COVDI-19 played a spoilsport to the celebrations. He shared, "It's necessary for all of us to be safe. It's important to be safe and probably celebrate a better Holi next time because health is everything. We cannot risk it for ourselves, our families and for the people around us. So it would be better if we stay at home and avoid moving out anywhere, avoid traveling and wait patiently for this pandemic to get over so that we can celebrate Holi in a much better way next year."

Vijayendra Kumeria

Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha actor Vijayendra Kumeria shared, "I’ll be home, will spend the day with family and enjoy some good food. As the COVID-19 cases are on the rise I can’t even think of any other plans. When I was in school, I was caught for carrying colours in my school bag. We had planned to play Holi after school but but I remember standing the whole day outside the Principal's office as a punishment. This is the second year when we will have to refrain from playing Holi for our own good. Of course, we will miss the fun but being safe and healthy is more important."

Farnaz Shetty

Farnaz Shetty told, "I have no Holi plans. I am shooting for a song here in the South. So celebrating it in a different way. I use to play Holi with my cousins as a kid. Covid has changed nothing so far in my life. If I am working then I have no choice other than to work."

Ankur Bhatia

Ankur Bhatia aka Aarya's Sangram, said, "Wishing everyone a very happy, safe Holi. I would request everyone to celebrate the festival from their homes, staying indoors and not putting anybody's life at risk. Let's keep Holi an intimate affair this year and wish for better days to come."

Micckie Dudaaney

Micckie Dudaaney of Santoshi Maa Sunayein Vrat Kathayein fame shared, "There is no plan for Holi. I'll be at home as I don't want to take the risk of going out and playing Holi at this time. My wife is pregnant and we are trying to avoid meeting people because of the virus. We are playing to eat good food and chill."

Recalling childhood memories, he said, "There are a lot of childhood memories of Holi. Back in Delhi, during school days, it used to be crazy. In Delhi, as we know, people are a little mad (laughs). We used to play dirty Holi. We would play with grease and eggs. A friend of mine would manufacture dye, the colour used to dye jeans. We used to play with that colour."

He added, "Unfortunately, COVID-19 has played a spoilsport this year and even last year. Not everyone was planning to go out then. But COVID-19 had just started and people managed to play Holi. But this year, there are no Holi parties. I heard the Government is applying the rule of not more than 5 people at a time at one place. Yes, COVID-19 has played spoilsport but we cannot do anything about it so it is better if we stay at home. This isn't the last Holi, we can play next year too. Everyone should be sensible enough and not meet unknown people and party."

Shweta  Shetty

Singer Shweta Shetty shared, "I’m in Goa for work cum pleasure. So instead of Bhaang, it will definitely be wine."

Sharing childhood memories, she added, "Colour didn’t leave me for days. I looked like baby Krishna for days."

Talking about how COVID-19 has played a spoilsport, Shweta shared, "Its a sombre mood all around and the rise in numbers is definitely going to make people be a bit cautious and its better so. All these festivals will be enjoyed with abandon next year, when all have been vaccinated and the fear disappears."

Seerat Kapoor

Seerat Kapoor wished her fans by saying, “Keep the festive spirit in you alive through these challenging times of the pandemic, by making memories and spending quality time with your near and dear ones. It is an opportunity to drive away from the strains with some masti and mithai but with safety being the first priority. I wish you and your family colorful thoughts and all things bright. As long as you’re safe, I’ll be at peace and also be able to enjoy. Heaps of love from mine to yours! Happy Holi ♥” and shared her views on celebrating Holi during this pandemic.

Pranati Rai Prakash

Pranati Rai Prakash said, “I love festivals! Holi and Diwali are my favorites. This Holi will be a get-together with family, not very fancy, but just some quality family time as I don’t get to meet my family much. I’m looking forward to the colors. I want to wish everyone a very Happy Holi!”
