Sidharth Malhotra's Shershaah to Alia Bhatt's Raazi, films by Dharma Productions that evoke a feeling of patriotism in Gen-Y

Patriotic films will never go out of vogue. Bollywood, one of the oldest film industries, has time and again made sure that to continue inspiring our countrymen by disseminating patriotic content through the visual medium. While people loved watching chest-thumping patriotic films in the early '90s and 2000s, the scenario is gradually changing for good. There has been a drastic change in the way stories of real-life heroes are told. Now, Bollywood has taken a step forward to present a realistic and cutting-edge picture of real and unsung heroes. Karan Johar's Dharma Productions is leading from the front.

Redefining new-age patriotism, Dharma Productions has made sure the Gen-Y is aware of their idols and heroes who come without capes. Staying true to the definition of cinema, the directors at Dharma have provided entertainment, educated their audience and also inspired them. The production house continues to take the responsibility of bringing to light some riveting stories of heroes. As we await more such tales, let's take a look at films that proved the production house has time and again redefined patriotism through cinema. Here are some commercially successful and critically appreciated films that had the heart and soul in the right place.

Shershaah

Ahead of Independence Day, Karan's Dharma Productions released its much-awaited film Shershaah on Amazon Prime Video today (August 12). Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani in the lead, the Vishnu Varadhan directorial is about Captain Vikram Batra (PVC) who sacrificed his life for his country at the age of 24 during the Kargil war in 1999. In no time, Shershaah managed to win the hearts of the audience and critics alike for honest performances and engaging screenplay.

Kesari

Another gem from Dharma Productions is Akshay Kumar's Kesari. Based on the Battle of Saragarhi, the war film told the lesser-explored story of Havildar Ishar Singh and the 21 Sikh soldiers of the British India Army who fought against 10,000 Afghans in the Samana Valley of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Kesari released in 2019 and was directed by Anurag Singh.

Raazi

One of the finest spy films made in India, Raazi became one of the highest-grossing Indian films featuring a female protagonist. Alia Bhatt played the role of Sehmat Khan, an undercover RAW agent, who marries a Pakistani military officer to procure information about the neighbouring country. Raazi was more than just a patriotic film. It was about humanity, sacrifice and above all this, love for your kin and of course country.
