Wamiqa Gabbi in Jubilee, Vijay Varma in Dahaad to Ishwak Singh in Rocket Boys 2, Rajshri Deshpande in Trial By Fire and Aksha Pardasany in Rafuchakkar, stand out performances in the first half of 2023


We are halfway through 2023 and we have had some spectacular performances from some of the actors on OTT. Some recent performances have proved that an actor’s performance is not dependent on screen time. Here are some of the actors whose performance was loved by both the fans as well by the critics:

Isha Talwar - Saas Bahu aur Flamingo

Even with stalwart and veteran actors like Dimple Kapadia in the star cast, Isha Talwar made her presence felt with an outstanding performance as Badi bahu, aka Bijlee, who runs a drug cartel. She also quite sensitively handled her character who struggles between a same-sex relationship and a marriage of convenience, making it quite relatable among the queer community.

Ishwak Singh - Rocket Boys 2

Ishwak Singh made a mark by playing the role of India's noted scientist Dr Vikram Sarabhai. With his acting, Ishwak made the character so iconic that Dr Vikram Sarabhai became synonymous with him. His performance was deeply appreciated by his fans and critics.

Wamiqa Gabbi - Jubilee

Wamiqa’s portrayal of Nilofer stays as one of the unforgettable performances in Jubilee. The actress seamlessly brought out Nilofer's ambitious and never say die attitude, without showing the character in a negative light. Her performance got her praise from veteran actresses like Zeenat Aman.

Gulshan Devaiah - Dahaad 

Known for giving natural performances, Gulshan Devaiah made his Dahaad character- police officer Devilal Singh relatable. His smooth delivery of dialogue and his skill of capturing subtle details of his character is noticeable. 

Sobhita Dhulipala-The Night Manager

Sobhita Dhulipala has won hearts with her intense performance in The Night Manager. She flawlessly emotes diverse emotions, making her characters relatable and compelling.

Aparshakti Khurana - Jubilee

Aparshakti beautifully captured the journey of his character from being a Binod Das, a nobody, to the superstar Madan Kumar. Through his performance, he managed to set the tone for this multi-starred show. Aparshakti was deeply appreciated for getting the nuances of yesteryear's world right. 

Rajshri Deshpande - Trial By Fire

There is a reason why Rajshri is one of the critically acclaimed actors in the industry. With her subdued yet impactful performance in Trial by Fire, she made the audience feel the pain of a mother who is struggling to get justice for the death of her children.

Vijay Varma - Dahaad

Vijay Varma as Anand Swarnakar in Dahaad, gave a new face to psychopathic characters. His performance convinced the audience to hate him, getting him nods from various critics. 

Aksha Pardasany- Rafuchakkar

Aksha Pardasany impressed audiences with her role in 'Rafuchakkar',  where she nailed the performance of a female cop with her dedication to the role. Her character in 'Jamtara' also received immense appreciation, solidifying her position in the world of entertainment. 

Sanya Malhotra-Kathal

Sanya Malhotra's captivating performance in Kathal received attention for her intriguing character. She remained in character throughout the film, showcasing her talent and delivering satirically funny moments.

Raashii Khanna- Farzi

Raashii Khanna left a lasting impression with her role in Farzi. With her remarkable screen presence and ability to hold the viewers' attention, she established herself as a promising talent in the OTT industry.
