After the thrilling countdown to last Friday’s Eid release, the high octane Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff actioner Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, a drought seems to have descended onto Bollywood. And the films releasing till this month end and in May, probably are the dullest of the year. Films like Luv You Shankar, The Legacy of Jineshwar and Main Ladega are bound to go unnoticed.
This week sees two theatrical releases: Do Aur Do Pyaar and Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2. Of LSD2, the less said the better. More is being said, or not being said, about Do Aur Do Pyaar, instead. Trade sources say that despite its trustworthy star cast including Vidya Balan, Pratik Gandhi, Ileana D'Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy, the film saw no buzz among audiences.
Do Aur Do Pyaar marks the feature film debut of director Shirsha Guha Thakurta. She explores the concept of extramarital affairs and conflicts in marriage and love. But is the Indian audience ready to accept a bold and unconventional concept? The current box office won't permit them to do so. With a reduction in people's attention span, a complicated love story might test patience.
Music plays an important role in building hype for a film. Unfortunately, due to a lack of memorable songs, Do Aur Do Pyaar fails to up the curiosity. The X-factor required to draw an audience to cinema halls is missing. Unexciting chemistry is also to be blamed. Also, except for Vidya Balan, there's no bankable face in the film.
True, Pratik Gandhi enjoyed a successful run with Madgaon Express. People are still in the comic hangover of that film and might not want to see Pratik resort to typical and confusing characters. Ileana D'Cruz has been missing for a long time and doesn't have enough credibility to convince the audience to believe in the script she picks. Vidya, who was last seen in Amazon Prime’s Neeyat last September, is the only crowd-pulling factor. She’s got her work cut out at the box office this weekend.
