Know your stars: Vishal Veeru Devgan aka Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn, an Indian actor, director, and producer, was born as Vishal Veeru Devgan and primarily works in Bollywood films. After making a strong breakthrough with 1991's Phool Aur Kaante, he went on to become one of India's most well-known actors and star of multiple blockbuster films. In 2016, the Indian government bestowed upon Ajay the Padma Shri.

Ajay Birth Date and Education:

Ajay Devgn was born in a Punjabi family in Delhi on April 2nd 1969. The family moved to Mumbai and established connections with Bollywood after initially settling in Amritsar. Veeru, Devgn's father, was a stunt choreographer in the Hindi film industry, and Veena, his mother, is a producer. The actor's cousin, Anil Devgan, is a director of Hindi films. He has two sisters, Neelam and Kavita. After completing his education at Mumbai's Mithibai College, Ajay graduated from Silver Beach High School.

Ajay Film Debut:

When Devgn started his career in the film industry in 1991, he went by "Ajay" instead of his birth name, Vishal, because other actors with the same name were being released at the same time, including Manoj Kumar's son. In the action romance Phool Aur Kaante, he made his professional debut with Madhoo and won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.

Then, in 1993, he acted in nine different movies: Platform, Shaktiman, Dhanwan, Ek Hi Raasta, Sangram, Dil Hai Betaab, and Bedardi. Even though each of these films did not do particularly well at the box office, it was only Dilwale (1994) that won him both critical and commercial praise. Following his role in the critically panned film Itihaas, he acted in Indra Kumar's phenomenal smash film Ishq (1997), which also starred Aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Kajol. He finished the decade with highly successful movies such as Raincoat (2004), for which he won his second National Award, Yuva (2004), Apaharan (2005) - nominated for a national award - Omkara (2006) and Raajneeti (2010).

The romance film De De Pyaar De and the adventure comedy Total Dhamaal are two of his other noteworthy 2019 projects. Sooryavanshi, Gangubai Kathiawadi, RRR, and Bhuj: The Pride of India are among his 2021 releases. Thank God (2022), Drishyam 2 (2022), Cirkus (2022), Bholaa (2023), Maidaan (2023), and Naam (2023) are some of his other releases.

Ajay As Producer:

Raju Chacha (2000) was the first film produced by Ajay Devgn Films, which he founded in 2000. Since then, the production company has worked on films that include Parched (2016), Aapla Manus (2018), Total Dhamaal (2019), Bol Bachchan (2012), Son of Sardar (2012), U Me Aur Hum (2008), and All the Best: Fun Begins (2009).

In 2020, he co-produced Chhalaang, starring Rajkumar Rao and Nushrat Bharucha, and he had Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Additionally, he produced The Big Bull (2021), starring Abhishek Bachchaan.

Ajay Personal Life:

While filming Gundaraj in 1995, Devgn got to know his co-star Kajol, who was the daughter of prominent actress Tanuja in the past. The couple's different personalities grabbed attention from the media, who described them as `an unusual pair`. Their romance quickly gained momentum. On the other hand, the pair wed on February 24, 1999, at the Devgan residence in a customary Maharashtrian ceremony. In 2003, Kajol gave birth to their first child, a daughter, and in 2010 to their second child, a son.
