Know Your Stars: Kapil Sharma early life, stand up career and personal life

Indian stand-up comedian, actor, TV host, and producer Kapil Sharma is well-known. Most known for Comedy Nights with Kapil, his Colors television program that debuted in 2013.

He was named CNN-IBN’s Indian of the Year in the entertainment category in 2013, and was also first appeared in Forbes India Celebrity list, ranking 93rd in the list. The comedian made his Bollywood debut in 2015 with Abbas-Mustan's romantic comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, following a successful stand-up career.

Kapil Birth Place:

Kapil was born on 2nd of April, 1981 in a Punjabi family in the city of Amritsar in Punjab, India as Kapil Punj. His mother Janak Rani is a home-maker, while his father Jeetendra Kumar Punj was a head policeman in the Punjab Police. He has two siblings; a sister, Pooja Sharma, and a brother, Ashok Kumar Sharma.

Following his education at the Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School, he attended the Hindu College in Amritsar and eventually earned his degree from the Apeejay College of Fine Arts in Jalandhar. Cancer claimed his father's life in 2004. He worked as a PCO when he was a youngster to get pocket money, and he taught theater to kids when he got to college to pay for his tuition.

Kapil Stand-up Career:

Kapil began his career with the comedy show Hasde Hasande Raho on MH One, he didn't become well-known until he took part in and ultimately won India's version of the Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007. Kapil was seen Sony Entertainment Television’s Comedy Circus in 2010.

Under the auspices of his production company K9 Productions, Kapil debuted his own program, Comedy Nights with Kapil, on Colors in 2013. The programme went on to become one of the most popular programmes on Indian television and achieved a high viewership rating. Bollywood stars, including Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, graced the show with their presence to promote their films. But because of problems with the network, Kapil chose to axe his show and replace it with The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV.

The Kapil Sharma Show initiated airing on Sony on 10 September 2022. The show's one of the main actor Krushna Abhishek left the show after monetary differences. Netflix announced Sharma's show on their platform on 14 November 2023. From the previous show on Sony TV, Archana Puran Singh, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and Rajeev Thakur joined the cast.

Kapil Acting Debut:

Sharma made his Bollywood debut as the male lead in the movie Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, a romantic-comedy directed by Abbas Mustan opposite four actresses, Elli Avram, Manjari Phadnis, Simran Kaur Mundi and Sai Lokur. His second movie Figangi was released on 1 December 2017 which was a flop.

In January 2022, it was announced that a biopic on his life is under development. Titled Funkaar the film will be directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba.  Kapil also had a brief appearance in the most recent film, Crew [2024].

Kapil Personal Life:

On December 12, 2018, Sharma wed Ginni Chatrath in Jalandhar. They are parents to a son and a daughter.
