Shilpa Shetty, also known as Shilpa Shetty Kundra after marriage, is an Indian film actress, television personality, producer and former model. She made her screen debut in the thriller Baazigar (1993). She had intermittent success in the rest of the decade, such as in the action films Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) and Jaanwar (1999). From 2009 to 2015, she was a part-owner of the Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals.
Shilpa Birth Place and Family:
Shilpa born Ashwini Shetty on 8 June 1975 in Mangalore, Karnataka in a Tulu speaking Bunt family. Her mother Sunanda and late father Surendra Shetty were both manufacturers of tamper-proof water caps in the pharmaceutical industry. Shilpa is the elder sister of Bollywood actress Shamita Shetty and both have worked together once in the 2005 film Fareb.
The actress attended St. Anthony Girls` High School in Chembur, and then graduated from the Podar College in Matunga, Mumbai. During her schooling days Shilpa was active in sports, mainly volleyball. She holds a black belt in Karate and is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer.
Shilpa Acting Career:
Shilpa made her Bollywood debut in the 1993 thriller Baazigar, a movie that turned out to be a huge box-office hit. Her next movie saw her co-starring with Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Raageshwari and Shakti Kapoor in the action comedy Main Khiladi Tu Anari.
Her major release of the year 1997 was the Bollywood action thriller, Auzaar, in which she co-starred with Salman Khan and Sanjay Kapoor. She had one release in the year 1998, Pardesi Babu. The year 2000 got Shilpa high acclaim for her role in Dhadkan for which she received several nominations under the Best Actress category in award ceremonies. Then, she starred with Anil Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor in the film Rishtey in the same year.
Her second role was in the film Phir Milenge, where she plays a wealthy and powerful city girl who gets HIV through unprotected intercourse and ends up as a social outcast. Shilpa then appeared in the film Dus in 2005 as an anti-terrorist agent and also starred in a Kannada film Auto Shankar which was a major box office success. Life in a... Metro, was highly appreciated with praises for Shilpa`s performance.
Shilpa TV Career:
Alongside Sajid Khan and Terrence Lewis, Shetty was featured as a talent judge for the dance reality show Nach Baliye (seasons 5, 6 and Shriman v/s Shrimati), from 2012 to 2014. In March 2014, Shetty began hosting the reality television show Soney Ka Dil, which she also co-produced along with Kundra.
Since early 2016, she has been judging the dance reality show Super Dancer on Sony Entertainment channel along with co-judges Geeta Kapoor and Anurag Basu. She made her comeback to films after 14 years, with the 2021 film Hungama 2 which received widely negative reviews.
He starred in the female-led comedy Sukhee with Amit Sadh. Shetty next starred in Rohit Shetty's series 'Indian Police Force', joining as the first female cop in his Cop universe. She has also been an early investor of MamaEarth, an Indian cosmetic brand.
