In the meantime, Jeff Goldstein, Warners President of domestic distribution, explained the delay in the release of the film in a statement, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

"We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer, so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did," Jeff Goldstein said in his statement.

Wonder Woman 1984 will reunite Gal with filmmaker Patty Jenkins, who had also directed the first part of the film. The film will co-star Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig.

The makers have not yet revealed details of the film's plot, but it is known that the film, which is currently in production, is set in the 1980s and will feature Diana (Gal) facing off against a new villain, Cheetah, played by Wiig.
