Veteran actress Mumtaz who ruled Bollywood in the 60s and 70s had a heart-to-heart Instagram Live session with her fans that was moderated by her daughter Tanya Madhvani today. The actress gave one blockbuster hit after another with Rajesh Khanna but soon bid adieu to the arc lights after she got married. In the live session she spoke about her co-stars and leading men like Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra and Sunil Dutt.
Speaking about Rajesh Khanna, she said, “Rajesh Khanna used to be very possessive about me. When I used to sign pictures with Dutt saab and Dharam ji, he would not talk to me for the whole day. He would go ahead and sign pictures with the whole world but when I used to do so he would get angry; he used to feel that he owned me because we did so many films together and all of them were hits, not even one flopped, so he used to say, ‘Why do you have to sign so many pictures?’ and I would reply, ‘Why do you sign so many films?’ and then we used to patch up.”
Talking about Dharmendra and Sunil Dutt, Mumtaz said, “When it came to Dharmendra ji, you know you’ll never find two people in the world, one is Sunil Dutt ji and another was Dharmendra ji. They were so respectful and so helpful, look after the leading ladies and so soft hearted, little things made Dharam ji cry. He and Rajesh Khanna used to call me ‘moti’ and they also never hid the fact that I was their favourite. Rajesh and I were friends but Sunil ji and Dharmendra ji were out of this world.”
Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna worked in films like Do Raaste, Bandhan, Apna Desh, Aap Ki Kasam, Roti, Saccha Jhootha, Aaina whereas she worked with Dharmendra in films like Aadmi Aur Insaan, Loafer, Jheel Ke Us Paar etc.
