Actor Rohit Roy has been accused of sexual harassment by a journalist in a telling post on Twitter. "He harassed me on several occasions since, trying to get me to kiss him including when his wife in the next room." However, the actor denied by saying, “I don’t know how I am supposed to react on this situation. I have no idea as to why the girl took.”
When Rohit’s elder brother Ronit Roy was asked about this incident, he appreciated the #MeToo movement but refused to judge his brother’s incident without knowing the real story behind it.
"I have discussed it, obviously he is my brother. I am going to the depths of this and find out what actually happened. I'm not taking sides. I want to know from my brother and from the person concerned what actually happened; because eventually what prevails is the truth. You can prove as many balls up in the air but eventually, truth prevails. I would like to know here what the truth is. Somebody has alleged, Rohit has denied. I'm meeting Rohit today and we will formulate a course of action about what happened, who this person is, why this person wants to be anonymous like Vinta and Sandhya," Ronit said during an interview with a leading entertainment channel.
He further added, "I am not going to sit here and pass judgement on anybody. I sympathise with the movement but I'm not in the capacity to pass any judgement. It is surely harrowing, lots of women who have been through this."
When questioned about the #MeToo movement, the actor said, “It's a very strong movement, it has unfortunately been around humanity not just in our country. It's been everywhere. It started off with Oprah Winfrey, its gaining traction in many countries and now in India. We have been talking about women empowerment and this is a step in the right direction. Now, empowerment means power, and power does come with great responsibility.”
“What has come out from the social media is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure there are lakhs and lakhs of women who have gone through this. Not just in the film industry but everywhere in government, media and in most places. I think our Supreme Court needs to make more cognizance of the fact; because naming and shaming is good at least it coming out. The lawmakers have to provide a clear and easier credible channel for justice," the actor concluded.
Ronit and Rohit were last seen together in Kaabil starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam.
