India is known for its festivals and rich heritage. In the last quarter of every year, multiple festivals are celebrated with joy, fervour and devotion. Now, the nine-day festival of Navratri kickstarted on October 7. It is believed that Goddess Durga arrives on Earth and devotees worship and offer prayers along with special food to her nine avatars. The nine avatars, known as Navdurga, are worshipped within the span of nine days. The first day of Navratri was dedicated to Goddess Shailputri. On the second day, that is today (October 8), devotees worship Maa Brahmacharini.
According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati practised severe penance for thousands of years. Her diet included only Bilva leaves and later, it was only water. Years later, she got married to Lord Shiva only after Lord Brahma blessed her. On the second day of Navratri, the unmarried form of Goddess Parvati a.k.a Goddess Brahmacharini is worshipped. Mythological scriptures suggest that Maa Brahmacharini governs Lord Mangal, the provider of all fortunes and represents the Swadhistana chakra in spiritual practice. Worshipping her on the second day of the nine-day festival is said to instil a great degree of self-confidence in people. The giver of all fortune, Maa Brahmacharini dispels the deepest sorrow of her devotees removing all their mental afflictions.
