An amazing singer, fashion icon, and advocate of body positivity, Billie Eilish stunned absolutely everyone as she covered for British Vogue latest issue in a never-seen-befire avatar.
A firm advocate of body positivity and ‘live and let live,’ the singer has always been against the idea of donning a corset for herself or show her body. When previously questioned about her oversized choice of clothing, the singer has maintained her stance on not wanting the world to know everything about her or have an opinion about certain aspects of her life, such as her body. But this photoshoot was on a completely opposite spectrum, a whiplash for the world.
From the usual white, black, and neon, she shifted to a more muted pink and black, the singer looked beautiful in deep blush pink for her cover pictures in her custom corset and skirt by Gucci, underwear by Agent Provocateur, latex gloves by Atsuko Kudo, and jewelry by Jacquie Aiche and Anita Ko. With her front fringe curled in a 50s-esque style, she was a sight for sore eyes. This was such a contrast from her usual comfy yet cool style of fashion!
Working with various other fashion brands for the shoot such as Burberry, Valentino, Dolce&Gabbana, Mugler, and more, she kept up the form-fitted theme and corseted looks.
Let's not forget, the tattoo was definitely a much-appreciated easter egg!
In an interview with Vogue, the singer opened up about difficult topics such as sexual abuse, the increasing pressure on people, and categorization of character on the basis of a woman's choice of clothing. She said, "It made me really offended when people were like, ‘Good for her for feeling comfortable in her bigger skin,’ ” She continued, “Good for me? ... The more the internet and the world care about somebody that’s doing something they’re not used to, they put it on such a high pedestal that then it’s even worse.”
Talking about her choice of baggy clothes, the seven-time Grammy Awards winner stated, "I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know? Nobody can be like, ‘Oh, she’s slim-thick, she’s not slim-thick, she’s got a flat (butt), she’s got a fat (butt). No one can say any of that, because they don’t know." Acknowledging the hypocritical standards towards the treatment of minors and sexualization of their bodies, she spoke about how adults like to push the blame on minors, "You are going to talk about being taken advantage of as a minor but then you're going to show your boobs??"
"Suddenly you're a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you're easy and you’re a slut and you're a whore. If I am, then I'm proud," Eilish said. "Me and all the girls are hoes, and f**k it, y'know? Let's turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin - or not - should not take any respect away from you," she said in the interview.
On her Instagram, she thanked Vogue for understanding her vision with this shoot.
This is an exceptional move on the singer’s behalf as she has previously expressed her disagreement towards compulsorily fitting into certain body shape standards and being out in the open for all to judge. To see her in this new and equally gorgeous avatar is a win for her and all. We definitely love both sides of her fashion spectrum!
