Pop star Rihanna’s freshly minted luxury label- Fenty is creating quite a buzz with its diverse launches and fresh faces. This hottest brand in town has got our favourite fashionista Sonam Kapoor on its hook as she recently flaunted the Fenty power suit with finesse and style.
Well, she is not the only Indian name closely associated with the brand Fenty. Meet the 19-year old Naomi Janumala who seized the opportunity to work with this global brand.
Born and raised in Mumbai, Naomi has ties with the film industry. This Telangana based model is the niece of Bollywood’s one of the most successful comedian Johnny Lever and daughter of Jimmy Moses (Johnny's younger brother). Talk about a powerhouse of talent!
Naomi, who started her career as a model three years, has been handpicked for the job by Rihanna herself, achieving new heights in her career and taking representing our country in the world of fashion, globally.
When asked about her experience while working with Rihanna, Naomi told Vogue,” When I first met Rihanna, we hugged, and the first thing she asked me was, ‘Where (are) you from?’ When I told her I was from India, she screamed, ‘I knew it, I knew I wanted you! You’re so gorgeous, it’s annoying, I don’t even want to stand next to you! Ahhh!’ recalled presently surprised Naomi. “I can’t even believe it sometimes that she said all of that to me.”
Rihanna’s decision to take an Indian model onboard was because some of her pieces from the collection were inspired by the country’s traditional wear. ‘“She told me how some of her clothes and earrings were inspired by a sari and jhumkas,” said Janumala.
Making it big on an international level, Naomi is a known face for international brands like Alexander Wang, Adidas, H&M, Nike x Nordstrom, Levi’s, American Eagle, Opening Ceremony x Disney and Matthew Adams Dolan, and many more.
An Indian model soaring high on an international level is indeed a big deal and we couldn’t be more proud. More power to you Naomi!
