The MET madness is back and we're ecstatic! Owing to the flavor of the sartorial extravaganza, we're certain this year too has something special in store for us!
This year's theme, 'About time' raises the question, 'what is time?' as compared to last year's, 'what is camp?' and we've decoded the mystery!
Seeking inspiration from Virginia Woolf and French philosopher, Henri Bergson, this year's exhibition will take a stroll down the memory lanes for a sartorial timeline established since the 1870s to date. Owing to MET's 150th anniversary, Virginia Woolf will serve as a ghost narrator to the soiree. This just got a lot more exciting!
"Fashion is indelibly connected to time, it not only reflects and represents the spirit of the times, but it also changes and develops with the times," said Andrew Bolton, the curator of the Costume Institute. "We didn't want to present them as a straightforward masterworks exhibition, a kind of simplistic overview of styles or an expected A-Z of fashion designers. I think fashion history has moved on from this rather reductive approach, and so too, I think, has our fashion audience."
Co-chairs to the gala, Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Nicolas Ghesquière of Louis Vuitton will be hosting this year's extravaganza on May 4, 2020 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
