Popularly known as Indian fashion’s vigilante, the anonymous Diet Sabya has called out many high-end fashion labels and designers alike for plagiarism and cultural appropriation to date. Looks like there’s an addition to this long list as a jewelry brand Dhora has been called out by this anonymous Instagram account for making COVID-themed necklaces. Yes, you read that right!
DS shared a story on its social media space and called out the jewelry brand for making and promoting its virus shaped necklaces, stating it as embracing the ‘new normal.’
Moments after this story got viral, the internet was split into two. Some netizens defended the accessory brand and called it a ‘great concept.’ Even Dhora took it to its ‘gram and lashed back at Diet Sabya accusing it of pulling them down in midst of a crisis.
Not the one to sit back and listen, Diet Sabya posted a long clap back to put an end to this argument. “Trying to leverage COVID-19 by making overpriced necklace is anything but a privilege,” read the caption of its story.
“Do you really think that any more would want to remember a crisis that has so far uprooted the lives of millions? Do you really think people want to remember the worst recession in history? Do you really think ANYONE would want to wear this ‘ART’ to remember the 362,124 lives lost?” it continued.
A COVID necklace to embrace the ‘new normal’ seems a bit stretched too far. What are your thoughts on this?
