Discussing the new diet fads including the Keto diet and Intermittent fasting, Taapsee and Munmun shed light on the question- How good or bad they are for the body in the long run? ‘We have been struggling to find out so many diets in for almost 40 years and nothing has come to the rescue. That in fact is a testimony to the fact that no diet works,’ quipped Ganeriwal. For the unversed, Keto diet includes protein and fats only while and Intermittent fasting comprises of fasting for 16 hours and eating for 8. Speaking about intermittent fasting, Munmun said that there are typically two problems with it. Firstly, we create a ‘rule around food’ which damages our relationship with food. Most of the people put on weight in this diet plan as they tend to overeat lawlessly when the eating window starts. Secondly, it disrupts the ‘circadian rhythm’ of the body. It’s a circadian clock in our body that functions in a clock way and is aligned to the sun. Intermittent fasting neglects this alignment and relation that we have with our circadian clock and it totally puts our body out of rhythm.

Speaking of Keto, Ganeriwal said omitting carbs from the body could be very harmful in the long run. Sharing her diet plan for the actress, Munmun said Pannu’s diet has been on carbs all the time and the carbs keep changing depending upon her roles and shoot locations. She continued further saying if the body is off carbs, people experience brain fogs that make them unable to concentrate. Going low on carbs can be very dangerous, it can give short term results but in the long run, it disrupts the harmony of the body. ‘So people who go low on carbs or Keto, they need to ask questions like will they be able to do this forever? If they are going to sustain the weight that they are losing? Are they going to keep losing this weight or is this going to come back again?’ said the dietician.

As diets are just an aspect of the fitness regime and working out is as important as eating right, Taapsee asked for some fitness tips that one can do at home during this lockdown. ‘Forget about building a body, at least to get our metabolism running fine so that we don’t have acid reflux issues or just putting on weight with restricted movements,’ she said. As diets are just an aspect of the fitness regime and working out is as important as eating right, Taapsee and Munmun shared some fitness tips that one can do at home during this lockdown. ‘There are many things that can be done depending upon what the person knows,’ said Munmun. A one and half hour of yoga session could work wonders or a couple of suryanamaskars, starting gradually would do the trick. If someone who isn’t a yoga person can try something as simple as skipping or walking up and down the stairs, practice a couple of burpees and mountain climbers in their living rooms with the help of YouTube videos. Consistency is the key and people have to do something small gradually and regularly to get there.

Concluding the session by saying there are no shortcuts to a healthy body and start loving it instead of exploiting it for small pleasures, Taapsee’s video was a real eye-opener!
