The year 2020 has been quite a rollercoaster ride with no safety belts and the fashion industry has seen a paradigm shift keeping in terms with the new normal. With economy and finances going for a toss, people have been more selective about what they wear. The fashion industry as well, has taken a step back, reflected on their actings in the social distancing period and gave back to the society in all the ways that they could.
However, the ones that suffered huge losses were people at the bottom of the pyramid of the Indian fashion industry- local craftsmen and karigars. It is a known fact that Indian craftsmen are one of the most skillful resources in the world, who faced some devastating impact in these months of lockdown. Canceled orders, unemployment and months of no orders have taken a toll on the artisans and their livelihood.
With a need to support the local artisans, Vogue India has brought designers from around the world for its unique initiative along with philanthropists Adar and Natasha Poonawalla. Titled ‘To India with Love,’ this unique initiative will be presented as a fashion film featuring designers from across the globe.
Fifteen designers including big names like Giorgio Armani, Bibhu Mohapatra, Christian Louboutin, Anita Dongre, Sabyasachi, Tarun Tahiliani amongst others will be seen supporting the cause. Indian as well as the international designers would be making monetary donations and auctioning pieces and making limited edition collections.
The fashion film would be aired on the official website of Vogue and its extensions on October 9, 2020. Stay tuned!
