Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2021 collection at New York Fashion Week finds a fan in ‘De-Gender Fashion’ creator Alok Menon!

American-Nepalese designer Prabal Gurung released his pre-fall/ fall  2021 collection virtually at the New York Fashion Week and took the digital runway by a sartorial storm. Titled ‘In the Mood For Love,’ the collection captured the touches of ‘80s glamour, retro polka dots, frills and flares, oversized bows and exaggerated sleeves amongst many other elements. Hot pink for the colour of the moment for Prabal’s pre-fall/fall collection while florals remained quite a constant. The collection also witnessed high-on-style moments while being both edgy and feminine.

Prabal and his stunning collection found a fan in gender non-conforming writer and performer Alok Menon who found it necessary to attend the designer’s show even if it wasn’t in person. Keeping it minimal this year, Alok mentioned that Prabal’s is the only show that they are attending. “As a fellow queer South Asian, I've always seen myself in Prabal's approach to fabric and silhouettes. I feel such a deep affinity and pride in his unique contribution to the fashion world, Alok told to online website Popsugar.com.

Alok also mentioned that Prabal has time and again supported them and the other trans and gender non-conforming peers in the industry where they lack recognition. "Gender non-conforming people like me have always been on the frontlines of style and fashion. Unfortunately, we are so rarely included in mainstream fashion. It means a lot that Prabal has continually supported me and so many of my trans and gender non-conforming peers in an industry that is often so inhospitable to us," Alok continued.

Collaborating with makeup artist Leibi Carias, Alok has curated 2 looks for the big ‘Prabal Day’ "One look is whimsical, one look is defiant. These are two parts of me that have been conjoined this pandemic: on the one hand feeling this deep, ethereal reflection. On the other, this restless, rogue desire to roam free," they continued
