Femina Miss India South runner-up 2011 Nidhi Sunil has managed to achieve new heights of success on an international level. The actor-model, who featured in some Bollywood films and national magazines has been appointed as L’Oréal Paris’ global ambassador. Talk about making it big!
Announcing her latest achievement, Nidhi shared the news on her social media account and posted a video representing the beauty brand. ‘#worthit #lorealparisfamily,’ read the caption of her post.
Speaking to Elle Canada, the beauty queen stated that this news came as a surprise to her. “It was so crazy because I didn’t see it coming at all. L’Oréal’s other Indian ambassadors are all A-list mainstream Bollywood actresses. I don’t think they’ve had an Indian ambassador whose a model and who also has darker skin until myself. Frankly, I’m an opportunist so I think it’s amazing to have a larger platform for all the causes that I speak for,” she said.
She further spoke about how she would use this opportunity and the platform to advocate for women’s rights in India and raise her voice against colourism. "I grew up in India and I’ve spent most of my life there. The women’s rights organization that I work with is located in the south, and it essentially rescues girls that would otherwise be selectively aborted or killed. We shelter them and provide education and life. These girls are going to grow up and form the next generation of women in the world. Colourism is also something that I’ve personally faced. It wasn’t like I was choosing to be a voice for it, it just so happened that I was confronted with situations that required that I speak up. I will continue to do the work that I’ve been doing for the past four years, the only difference is that my platform is going to get bigger. Hopefully, this means that more people will have access to the work that I’m already doing," she continued.
Prior to Sunil’s appointment, Bollywood actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Deepika Padukone have already been a part of L’Oréal family. Before coming onboard as the brand’s newest global ambassador, Nidhi has worked in campaigns like Garnier, The Gap, Forever 21, Esprit, and featured in Indian and international glossies like Vogue, Conde Nast Traveller, GQ and Elle.
