Navya Naveli Nanda, Gul Panag and others lead the ‘ripped jeans’ twitter trend after Uttarakhand CM calls it a ‘bad example’

Not a long time ago, Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat made a snide remark on women’s choice of clothing that put him under the scanner on Twitter. While attending a workshop organised in Dehradun, Tirath, on Wednesday, expressed his views over women wearing ripped jeans and said they cannot provide the right environment for children at home.

“If such women go out in the society to meet people and solve their problems, what kind of message are we giving out to society, to our kids? It all starts at home. What we do, our kids follow. A child who is taught the right culture at home, no matter how modern he becomes, will never fail in life. Showing bare knees, wearing ripped denim, and looking like rich kids. These are the values being given now (at home). Where is this coming from, if not at home?" he said.

This statement irked actress Gul Panag and Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter who then took it on Instagram to share their reaction. Gul, in a witty way, posted a picture of herself in ripped denim along with a tweet that read, ‘*takes out ripped jeans*'

Navya shared the screengrab of the Chief Minister’s comment along with a caption that read, “Change your mentality before changing our clothes :) because the only thing shocking here is the message comments like this send to society.” Navya then posted a picture of herself wearing ripped jeans.

Milind Soman’s wife Ankita Konwar also hopped on to the trending bandwagon and shared a picture of herself in distressed jeans along with an additional picture in a saree. “I mean I’m all for sarees but ripped jeans aren’t bad either,” she captioned her post.

Koena Mitra tweeted: "May Bjp rule for another 50 years but.... ripped jeans and boots will rock forever! Men don't tell us what to wear! I wear shorts and sneakers, I dance like a hip-hopper, I chant Hanuman chalisa, I vote, I travel like a Gypsy and I cancel Men like him. Stop."

Sona Mohapatra shared a photo of herself wearing a ripped long t shirt and wrote: "I don't wear jeans owing to the humidity & heat here but happy for this ripped T shirt with my sanskari ghutnas showing!..& #GirlsWhoWearRippedJeans don't need anyone's permission in #India . We are the land of the glorious Konark, Khajurao, Modhera, Thirumayam, Virupaksha!"

Shruti Seth tweeted: "Currently ripping all my jeans."

Along with celebs, many netizens are being a part of this trend. However, the CM is still to comment on this whole fiasco. Well, what are your thoughts on this?
