In March, there was a buzz that House Of Masaba and fashion label Wendell Rodricks may be collaborating for a line. But now, designer Masaba Gupta denied all speculations.
In an email note to a leading newspaper, she wrote, "We are not doing any cross-line (collection) with WR, nor do we have business plans with the WR label. I am committed to my label, and my focus lies in growing the House of Masaba. I wish the WR label all the best in their journey."

Gupta shared a close relationship with the late Rodricks and considered him her mentor. She has walked the ramp for him during his shows and respected his style. In an interview in 2016, the fashion designer had revealed that she “wouldn’t be in fashion if it weren’t for him.” Thus, she was the obvious choice to take over the line after Schulen Fernandes, the creative director of his label who has now quit.
Mumbai-based fashion house Purple Style Labs, who acquired late designer Wendell Rodrick's line after his passing, had hinted at a possible collaboration. "A cross-line with the two brands together given that we are also an equity investor in Masaba, but there is no appointment as the creative director for the WR brand," Purple Style Labs head Abhishek Agarwal had revealed in March.
Fernandes did confirm an “open” discussion of creative collaboration for one big collection between the two labels. “There was a private conversation between two friends; Anjana Sharma and Masaba. It was an interesting idea, which never took off, as Masaba got busy with her TV show and other commitments. I, for one, was really looking forward to it,” said Fernandes.
