Indian fashion aficionados rejoice as an Indian female designer will be showcasing her works at the Paris Haute Couture Week 2021. Designer Vaishali Shadangule, who owns the label Vaishali S, has been invited as a guest member to showcase her works.
She was shortlisted after a long grueling process of selection which went on for six months. An active voice of sustainability in fashion, Vaishali's creative wave design and experiments with colours worked as major plus points for her popularity. In an interview with a leading news portal, the designer opened up about her surprise, the selection process, and the designs she will be displaying.
When asked about the selection process, Vaishali admitted that the process was "very tough... I had to convince a panel of 15 judges as to what makes my brand different and why I deserve to be here." She shared videos of how she makes her own fabric and in the end, "they were impressed and realised that what I do is real couture." She will be showcasing her designs alongside luxury fashion houses such as Balenciaga.
The designer has some creative ideas for her showcase, "There would be haute couture gowns but with a Vaishali S twist... A lot of these International designers take inspiration from our threadwork and get our karigars to make their collection." She aims to show the global market that India has a "lot more to offer through this collection."
Cannot wait for the Paris Haute Couture Week 2021 to arrive!
