Anushka Sharma auctions maternity clothes, wants to bring 'circular economy' into the 'fashion system' with her new initiative

Anushka Sharma has often used her social media platforms to spread awareness about small behavioural changes that have a positive impact on the environment. She has been using her voice for the right cause. Now, the actress, with her new initiative, wants to bring 'circular economy' into the 'fashion system'. Today, Anushka announced that she teamed up with an NGO named SNEHA to auction off her maternity clothes. The proceeds from Anushka's online sale will go towards supporting maternal health and save 2.5 lakh litres of water.

Anushka told a leading daily, "This is a very simple way that each of us can live kinder lives. By sharing pieces back into the circular fashion system and shopping preloved, we have a huge positive impact on the environment. During my pregnancy, I thought this phase in our lives is uniquely suited to participate in the circular economy. So I hope we can kickstart this ecosystem together."

She added, "For instance, if even just 1 percent of pregnant women in urban India bought one piece of preloved maternity clothing over newly manufactured, each year we can conservatively save about as much water as a person drinks in over 200 years! This is a way in which a small action of each individual can make a real difference."

Anushka and her husband Virat Kohli became parents of a beautiful baby girl named Vamika on January 11. The couple is keeping their daughter guarded from the media's attention. They requested the paparazzi to not carry pictures of Vamika.
