From Zendaya becoming the youngest recipient of the CFDA Fashion Award to Burberry getting a new CEO, international fashion news that made headlines recently.
Zendaya is the youngest recipient of CFDA Fashion Icon Award
The CFDA presented Zendaya with the Fashion Icon Award. She is the youngest recipient to receive the award, which takes place on November 10. The actress, model, and singer will join the likes of Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, and many others. “Zendaya’s journey to Fashion Icon superstar happened at supersonic speed,” shared the CFDA in a statement. “Time and again, she has proven that she is unafraid to take risks…With her creative counterpart [Law Roach], Zendaya has given fans and fashion followers worldwide a seemingly countless number of glamorous red carpet looks to remember.”
Burberry names a new CEO
Jonathan Akeroyd is the new CEO of Burberry, commencing the role on April 1, 2022. Akeroyd has a plethora of experience under his belt. He was the President of Alexander McQueen for 12 years before becoming CEO of Versace in 2016. This comes after the news that the current CEO, Marco Gobbetti, would be leaving the company after four years. He will move on as Chief Executive of Salvatore Ferragamo.
Chloé Becomes B Corp Certified
Chloé has become the first fashion house to be certified as B Corp. “Rather than a final goal, this certification makes a new stage in our transformation toward a purpose-driven model, reinventing how we do business,” said the company in a statement. Chloé’s Creative Director, Gabriela Hearst, made swift changes to the label upon her entry in 2020, such as the use of recycled fabrics, repurposed handbags, and partnering with charities in the process.
Balenciaga replaces Gucci as the most searched brand on Lyst
The latest Lyst Index showed that in-person fashion shows and star-studded events such as the Met Gala, the Emmys and the VMAs made a big impact on the platform search results. Balenciaga climbed up five spots, replacing Gucci at the top of the hottest brands ranking in the third quarter of 2021. Searches during the period jumped 505 percent, thanks to the brand’s return to haute couture, its Fortnite collaboration, Kanye West’s collaboration on his “Donda” album launch with the brand, as well as the company’s massive presence at the Met Gala red carpet.
YSL creations to be showcased at 6 different Paris Museums to celebrate its 60th anniversay
The house of Yves Saint Laurent is ringing in its 60th anniversary with the exhibit “Yves Saint Laurent Aux Musées” (Yves Saint Laurent at the Museums”) showing at six different Parisian museums, displaying YSL pieces such as his Mondrian dress, accompanied by the art that inspired them. Curated by Mouna Mekbar, this exhibit will be shown at the Louvre, Paris Museum of Modern Art, Picasso Museum, and the Yves Saint Laurent museum. Inspired by Van Gogh and Picasso, this exhibit will be the first of its time, displaying artworks that directly inspired Saint Laurent.
