Happy to take him to the International Emmys just like I am to be at one: Vir Das on wearing NIFT student Pradeep Bhatt’s creation on red carpet

Actor-comedian Vir Das has been making headlines for mixed reasons lately. While the latest gig, Two Indias, drew a lot of flak, his Netflix Special segment, Vir Das: For India bagged a nomination at the International Emmy Awards 2021.

Making a statement on the red carpet of the gala, Vir ditched a high-end designer label and chose to represent a budding NIFT designer. His monochrome look in a buttoned-down black jacket and matching pants teamed with a long white kurta-shirt was designed by Uttarakhand’s third-year fashion student at NIFT, Pradeep Bhatt. This outfit will later put out for charity as well.

Vir took it to his social media post putting the budding designer's creation on the map and applauding his creation. "Did not want to go with a fancy foofoo designer for the Emmys. Put a post out saying if you’re struggling or studying, I would buy & wear your design," he captioned his post. "Proud to wear your first originals buddy. Hope this is the beginning of a wonderful future for you! This outfit will soon be auctioned for charity," he concluded.

Speaking about his OOTD for the gala, the comedian said, "I didn't want to wear a fancy designer at the International Emmys so I outsourced my styling on Instagram for anyone who is struggling or starting a new label. I am wearing a Pradeep Bhatt label, he is a boy from Uttarakhand, India who is in the third year of NIFT. This is the first thing he has designed for the public. I am happy to take him to the International Emmys just like I am to be at the International Emmys," he said on the red carpet.

Now that’s quite encouraging and wholesome at the same time. Looking at this heartwarming gesture, Vir Das, indeed is all ‘For India’!
