Ace fashion journalist, New York Times bestselling author and Vogue's former Editor-At-Large André Leon Talley has left the mortal world for a heavenly abode. The icon of the fashion circuit breathed his last on Tuesday at a hospital in White Plains, N.Y. He was 73 years old. The cause of death is still unknown.

One of the most celebrated fashion figures, Talley was known for his tremendous contribution in shaping Vogue magazine’s image in the ‘80s and ‘90s. He served as news director at Vogue from 1983 to 1987 and moved on to become the glossy’s creative director in 1988. After successfully taking the magazine to heights as a creative director for seven years, he became Vogue’s editor-at-large and continued to lead the magazine under his helm till 2013. Apart from Vogue, Talley has also lent his expertise in in Women’s Wear Daily, W and the New York Times.
In his career spanning for six decades, Talley has managed to create an impact in the fashion arena by including more black designers and models on the runway, thus bringing much-needed diversity. He was also a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ community and called himself ‘fluid.’ He has written three books, including two memoirs and volunteered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Battling ageism, racism and weight discrimination along the way, he emerged as an icon of the fashion industry.
