At first, I didn’t get it: Kim Kardashian admits to not understanding the concept behind her MET Gala 2021 Balenciaga look

Hands down, Kim Kardashian’s MET Gala 2021 costume was the most talked-about look of the soiree. When the beauty moghul stepped on the pink carpet wearing a head-to-toe Balenciaga bodysuit, it did raise many eyebrows including Kim’s as well.

The reality TV star recently admitted to not understanding the concept behind her famous MET look and had her inhibitions about sporting the same at the gala. However, her mind was changed by Balenciaga’s creative director, Demna Gvasalia who assured her that the risk would be paid off.

In a conversation with Vogue, Kim opened up about her concerns regarding the mentioned look. “When he told me about the idea, I could tell he was trying to ease me into it. “At first, I didn’t get it. I can’t go to the Met and cover my face; what is my glam team going to do? But I trust Demna 100 percent. You have to have that trust so that even when you’re taking a big risk, you know it’ll be worth it,” she said, as reported by an online website Hypebae.

The theme for last year’s costume gala was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,’ which served as an inspiration for Kim’s veiled look. Initially, the fashion sensation was against the idea but Demna and the Balenciaga team convinced her otherwise. “I fought against it. I was like, ‘I don’t know how I could wear the mask. Why would I want to cover my face?’ But Demna and the (Balenciaga) team were like, this is a costume gala. This is not a Vanity Fair party where everyone looks beautiful. There’s a theme and you have to wear the mask. That is the look,” she concluded.

Well, while her look was definitely debatable, it was also certainly noticed. Many came up with their own interpretation of the look. Well, all’s well that ends well. We wait to see her look for this year’s fashion soiree!
