The first Monday of May is finally here which means Oscars of Fashion, a.k.a the much-awaited MET Gala is back in action. Touted as fashion’s biggest night out, the soiree witnesses our favourite celebs dressed at their extravagant best, gracing the steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, in sync with every year’s costume theme. With 2020 standing canceled in every aspect and 2021 being quite an intimate affair, we expect nothing but raised fashion stakes and given the hype, we are certain that our inner fashionista won’t be disappointed!
As we inch closer towards fashion’s biggest night of the year, the little details of the gala will make keeping patience somewhat better. From the event’s timing to streaming platforms and guest list, here’s everything you need to know before witnessing tonight’s sartorial extravaganza!
THEME
This year’s annual event will be celebrated with the theme, In America: An Anthology of Fashion. It is a part two exhibit continued from the last year’s theme, In America: A Lexicon. While last year’s lexicon theme dealt with interpreting individual fashion moments, the anthology is a whole collection of art.
DRESS CODE
Keeping up with the theme as well as the grandeur of the occasion, the star-studded guest list would be asked to follow the dress code of ‘gilded glamour, white-tie.’
WHEN AND WHERE TO WATCH
The event will commence at 6 p.m. ET (Tuesday, 3.30 AM IST) on Vogue’s digital platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
GUEST LIST
While Vogue keeps its guest list under wraps until the last minute, Page Six reported that Megan Thee Stallion and Katy Perry will attend the gala. While it’s all speculations but MET’s regulars such as Kim Kardashian, Kylie and Kendall Jenner, Hadid sisters, Belle and Gigi, OG fashion icons Rihanna, and Lady Gaga amongst many others are likely to make an appearance. Bollywood divas Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Deepika Padukone are rumored to be attending the gala. However, Zendaya won’t be able to attend this year’s soiree due to work commitments. Bummer!
HOSTS
This year’s star-studded gala will find its hosts as official co-chairs in Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Designer Tom Ford, head of Instagram Adam Mosseri, and Vogue’s Anna Wintour will continue their roles as the honorary co-chairs.
