Celebrating the Asian American and Pacific Islander women who have contributed to their culture and work, toy company Mattel has launched its tribute Barbie collection and this time it's inspired by none other than designer Vera Wang. Having a humble beginning with a small boutique, Vera worked her way up and carved a nice for herself in the fashion arena.
The designer expressed gratitude by sharing a heartfelt post on her social media account. Speaking of her reaction to being immortalized as a Barbie, Wang said, “When I was first asked to participate in the Barbie’s ‘Tribute’ series, I was completely overwhelmed on so many levels. While it has been an honor for me to have created so many looks for Barbie through the years, from wedding to red carpet, a Barbie in my own likeness is something I never could have imagined. Barbie is the ultimate icon, and she represents all of us, and through the decades, she has continued to evolve, to every changing standard of women while reflecting huge shifts in our society, if not the world,” she said, as reported by online website Hypebae.
Dressed in an all-black dress elevates with mesh cape detailing and black boots, the Vera Wang Barbie comes with a signature long mane resembling the designer. Priced at $39.99 USD, this latest doll from the tribute collection is available online.
