A slap in the face to those actually facing poverty: Netizens disapprove of Balenciaga’s overly distressed Paris sneakers

Be it Kim Kardashian’s no-face MET Gala 2021 look or the bandage bodysuit from his latest PFW collection, Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia and his out-of-the-box approach have always left people puzzled initially. And now, in another disruptive move, the luxury fashion brand has launched a limited collection of overly distressed sneakers. Say what?

Called the ‘Paris sneakers’ these kicks come in worn-out condition and are ‘retooled classic design affecting a pre-worn look," as stated by the brand. These overly distressed shoes will feature frayed edges on the collar, tongue and lacing system and would be available in red, white and black.

However, the sneaks displayed on the social media site of the brand's page are just an exaggerated version of the actual product as the original kicks aren’t as worn out as shown in the campaign imagery.

These overly distressed shoes suggest that Paris sneakers are “meant to be worn for a lifetime." Available for pre-order currently, the rugged shoes will be a limited edition collection restricting to 100 pairs only and will range cost $495 USD for the mule and $625 USD for the high-top.

While we get the message behind the new launch, netizens do not seem to be pleased with Balenciaga’s new stint. Many people trolled the brand for ‘selling anything under the name of fashion’ while others called it out for appropriating war and poverty. Check out the comments below:
