Britain's longest-serving monarch Queen Elizabeth II was laid to rest alongside her late husband Prince Philip in the King George VI Memorial Chapel within the St George’s Chapel. On Monday, her coffin was taken out for the state funeral at London's Westminster Abbey.
At the funeral, Kate Middleton paid a heartwarming tribute to Queen Elizabeth. Dressed in a black outfit and veiled hat, the Princess of Wales wore jewellery that belonged to her grandmother-in-law. She was seen wearing the queen’s four-row pearl choker with a diamond clasp along with her Bahrain Pearl Earrings. In the past, she reportedly wore the same jewellery to Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021.
What caught people's attention was Princess Charlotte's gesture to honour her great-grandmother. The seven-year-old daughter of Prince William and Kate wore a small horseshoe-shaped diamond brooch to the state funeral. As per reports, the piece of jewellery was gifted to Charlotte by the queen herself. It was worn by the princess to honour the late queen’s love for horses.
Meghan Markle also paid a tribute to the queen by wearing a pair of pearl-and-diamond drop earrings gifted to her by the Majesty herself. Reportedly, it is said to be a smaller version of the Queen Mary’s Button Earrings which the royal wore almost daily. It is believed that the earrings came straight from the queen's personal jewellery collection.
The queen passed away on September 8 at the age of 96.
