The end of an era! The eponymous label of Belgian designer Raf Simons is closing after 27 years in the fashion industry. The brand’s spring-summer 2023 collection shown in London in October will be its last, Simons said in a statement posted on Instagram on Monday.
The Belgian fashion designer established his own brand in 1995 after completing his degree from the LUCA School of Arts in 1991. He staged a show at Paris Fashion Week in just two years, quickly becoming as the face of deconstructed fashion.
Raf leaves his imprint on the fashion industry with a last Spring/Summer 2023 collection that makes references to his career spanning three decades. At the start of his career, he also went on to collaborate with some of the largest fashion labels in the world, such as Calvin Klein, Christian Dior, and Jil Sander.
Simons' career as a designer and his enormous influence on the fashion business continues despite the closure of his namesake label. Since 2020, he has served as Prada's co-creative director, and he will continue to do so.
All iconic epitomes come to an end, but the ever-lasting memories and contributions are cherished forever.
