She did complete justice to Indian culture: Designer Rahul Mishra on Zendaya’s NMACC couture saree look

Speaking of the best looks from the NMACC gala, Zendaya’s scintillating saree gown custom curated by Rahul Mishra definitely stole the show. The hand embroidered 'Verdure' saree gown, teamed with ‘Flying Cranes’ bralette featured intricate embellishments all over “The hem of her skirt and the trail articulates a kind of jungle with tigers, squirrels, and flamingos in their natural habitat as they look up at the midnight sky,” he said in his conversation with Vogue. This labour of love took over 3,000 man-hours to complete!

The designer opened up on how the Oscar-winning actress, not only honoured the gala’s theme ‘India in Fashion’ but also the country’s culture as well. “I believe that Zendaya paid homage to India as a country, not only Indian fashion. We’re home to a vivid culture and a diverse heritage of craftsmanship. By putting their trust in us, Law (Roach) as a creative director and Zendaya as the star allowed us complete freedom to interpret the moment and create something special.”

She embraced it with utmost respect and warmth and, I believe, did complete justice to the Indian culture,” he said. “I can see the Indian youth be both smitten by her and feel seen by her as she joined her hands at the camera wearing that outfit,” concluded Rahul.

The designer also believes that this look on the global star will encourage the Indian youth to embrace our cultural wear too. “She embraced it with utmost respect and warmth and, I believe, did complete justice to the Indian culture.
