Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Trailer takes us back to the world of Hogwarts and reveals Nagini's secret

The final trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has been unveiled and it offers a connection to the Harry Potter universe that we never saw coming. The sequel sees Eddie Redmayne reprising his role of magizoologist Newt Scamander and proceeds to fight against the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald (played by Johnny Depp) with some able guidance and support from Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law).

In the final trailer, we get to see Newt roaming the streets of Paris as he explores the dark side of the wizarding world where something sinister is looming large and threatening to take over. The trailer shows Depp making a desperate bid for power as he tries to convince wizards to join forces with him to take over the world. However, the biggest surprise comes in the form of Claudia Kim’s character as its revealed that she is playing Nagini – a maledictus. Potterheads will remember that Nagini was Lord Voldemort’s future companion and an important Horcrux, in fact, the last one to be destroyed to make him mortal again.

JK Rowling, the writer of the Harry Potter series had a field day on Twitter explaining the existence of Nagini. She explained that a Maledictus is a cursed woman who can take the form of an animal at will until one day it transforms permanently. However, it’s different than a werewolf as a werewolf can be either man or woman but a maledictus is a curse that is passed from mother to daughter and hence plagues only women.

Ezra Miller who plays Credence, an obscurial in the first part also returns to the film and holds a special bond with Claudia’s Nagini. We also get some answers in the final trailer as finally, we come to know what Dumbledore sees in the Mirror of Erised. He sees his friend-turned-arch nemesis Grindelwald (and not socks as was revealed in the Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone). We also get to meet the no-maj Dan Fogler who reprises his role as Jacob Kowalski. Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol reprise their roles of Goldstein sisters.

Zoe Kravitz is seen essaying the role of Leta Lestrange and Callum Turne is seen as Newt’s brother auror Theseus Scamander in the trailer. For the unversed, Newt was in love with Leta when in Hogwarts and took the blame for her misdemeanour which resulted in his expulsion from the wizarding school. However, in the film, she is engaged to his brother Theseus. The famous alchemist Nicolas Flamel is also seen in the trailer, played by Brontis Jodorowsky; and yes, the Elder Wand is seen quite a number of times in the trailer.

Fantastic Beasts 2 is set for release on November 16.
